Sunsets

I love how sunsets
Are like rainbows
Laying across the horizon.
They fall in an arc
Of amber and auburn
And chartreuse and indigo
Speckled with glittering stars
That spin
and sparkle
And churn.

They revolve around a single axis
Made of orange fire
Blazing and burning
Higher and higher.

And the sun falls.
The rainbow disperses
In a flurry of light.
A supernova of color
Burning cold and bright.

We are left
With not but a star
That blinks away
The last ray
Of a brilliant sunset.
