Chapter 5| Dinner Time
"How is he?" I asked Yasmine through the phone.
He's doing fine. Nothing to major but other than the scare he gave me, he is recovering well. I won't be in school again tomorrow but I will on Wednesday, so until then, you're going to have to get rides from Quinton."
I groaned and ran my hand through my long hair. Ever since that little incident with Quinton back in his car, I'm starting to hate the idea of him driving me to school. I have 2 more months before I take my written test to get my permit. I'm dreading for that day to come fast so I can take myself places.
"I hate him Yasmine. He's already showing signs of possessiveness and were not even together."
"Maybe Mr. Badass is growing feelings for you Cassandra." She laughed.
"If he so calls 'has feelings' for me, why is he going out tonight to hook up with some Cindy girl? The last time I checked, if someone has feelings for another, they try to make you happy and make you feel like you're the only girl in the world. So far he has not accomplished any of that." I said thinking about that girl who was talking to him this morning.
"It also seems like these feelings are double sided." She said, I can hear a smile in her voice.
I shook my head. "I don't know. I doubt it. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm having his baby, I think I wouldn't feel anything for him. He wouldn't talk to me and he wouldn't have any types of feelings for me. The only reason why we're talking now is because of this pregnancy. I wouldn't want to be forced to be with him just because of us having a baby. I want to fall in love, not be forced into one."
"Listen Cassandra just listen to your heart. It will always be right even when you think it isn't. Don't do something just because you think it is or isn't right. Do it because you know its right."
"Your right Yasmine, I will take note to that."
After a few minutes of us talking on the phone we said our goodbyes. I still haven't told her about the Nathan boy I ran into today, even there's nothing to tell, at least not yet. My mother came home not long after but she wasn't dressed in her work clothes, instead she was in a nice long summer dress that touched the floor.
She came into the house all high spirited and happy carrying her sandals in her hands. I stood up from the couch and eyed her until she noticed I was in the room.
"Hello Cassandra." She said happily walking upstairs to her room with me following behind her.
"Mom, why are you in such a good mood?"
She twirled around and landed back side first on her bed with a big smile on her face.
"Cassandra, I'm in love."
I sat down next to my mom and watched as her eyes looked at her ceiling fan above her canopy bed.
"What do you mean, you're in love?" I mocked her voice. "With who?"
We sat on her bed and she told me about her mystery man I have yet to meet. His name is Calvin and he proposed to my mother and wants me to meet him in a couple of days. I just want her to be happy, I'm tired of seeing her alone all the time. She spent her life raising me and now that I'm old enough to fend for myself, I'm just happy she went out to meet new people. She now has a fiancée and won't be alone much longer. Hopefully in the near future, she can give me a younger brother or sister.
"Cassandra he really wants to meet you."
"So why haven't you brought him here?"
"Because I want you two to meet each other Friday."
