Chapter 13: The Phone Works Both Ways

Y/N just got out of the shower. She had a towel wrapped around her body, and a towel around her hair. It was mid afternoon, and compared to most days, it was slightly warmer than usual. She was in her room looking for an outfit to wear. She grabbed some pajama pants, and a T-shirt from her favorite band.
She puts some socks on to guard her feet from the cold hard floors in her living room. She takes the towel down from her head to see her hair was partially dried. She throws the dirty towels in the hamper and stretches, letting out a sigh of relief. It felt good to be warm, and clean.

She walks out to her living room and looks around absently. She see's the vent that's supposed to blow warm air through all the apartments and chuckles, it never does any good. The only good it does is allow Y/N to talk to Alex.

She smiles and decides to see what Alex is up to.

She sits next to the vent on her floor and talks through it
"Hey Alex?"

Alex was in his room under a mountain of blankets with his cat, they were snuggling to keep warm. He hears Y/N call through the vents, immediately getting his attention.
"Yeah what's up?" He looks up at the vent

"You doing anything today?" She bites her lip in anticipation, she was really hoping he was free today.

"No actually, me and Tiger are just in bed." He pets the cats head, the small cat meows in response

Y/N giggles, "Awh give him a kiss for me! I miss Tiger."

"Well if you wanna hang out today we can do it at my place, you can see Tiger in person"
Alex continues petting the small cat, he purrs in response

"Absolutely! I'm in my pajamas, I hope that's okay." Y/N laughs quietly

"I mean I didn't expect you to be in the latest Versace fashion" Alex chuckles "just come down here stupid, Tiger misses you"

Y/N smiles
"Okay I'll be down in a sec, just gotta grab some stuff."

She gets up and grabs her Nintendo switch, her phone, and her house keys. When she got up to get her things Alex heard her footsteps from above, making him smile.

He was excited to see Y/N again, they always have fun gaming together. It was their favorite thing to do together. But Alex was building up courage, hes accepting the fact he likes her. And he's building up the confidence to tell her. He wants to date her, I mean who wouldn't? She's any persons dream girl.

He hears a knock at the door and bolts up from his bed to open it. His feet were cold on the tile of his entry way, unlike Y/N though he has carpet throughout his living room, the tile only being in the kitchen, bathroom, and entry way.

Once Alex opens the door Y/N smiles, she holds her Nintendo switch up
"Wanna play Mario Kart?"
"You know it" Alex smirks and lets her inside

She goes over to his TV and sets up the Nintendo switch. Alex watches her with a smile, he plops down on the couch and puts his feet on the coffee table in front of him.
"I'm totally gonna kick your ass in this game" he chuckles
"Oh yeah? We'll see. I grew up playing this game with my cousins, I'm the reigning champion." She looks behind her and rolls her eyes playfully at Alex

Alex rolls his eyes in return too and makes a 'tch' sound with his cheek "I admire your confidence, but be prepared to get your ass kicked."

"Oh it's on, it's so totally on. I was gonna go easy on you, but fuck that" she laughs quietly and sits next to him on the couch

They start up the game and comfortable silence floods the room. They were close enough to enjoy silence together. Part of that made Alex hopeful she had at least a little bit of feelings for him. He didn't wanna assume how she felt, he didn't want to get his hopes up. But he definitely knew she saw him as more than an acquaintance. Even if she saw him as a best friend at least the blow wouldn't be as hard as her seeing him a friend.

"So what did you do last night?" Y/N pipes up as they pick their characters
"Oh nothin really, just called some friends. We meet up on discord about once a week."
"Really? That's cool. Was Tommy in the call?" She smiles
"Of course he was" Alex laughs quietly, "That kids so annoying" he says playfully, he makes fun of his friends as a joke all the time
"He's annoying, but he's funny. I think he's pretty cool" Y/N sighs happily, "I'd like to meet more of your friends."
Alex nodded, "Yeah, maybe next time we call I'll invite you over. The main ones I call with are Tommy, Wilbur, and George."
"They sound cool, those are unique names."

Alex nodded absently, "Well what did you do last night?"
Y/N thinks about it, if he knew what she actually did last night it was be absolutely embarrassing. But she couldn't think of much on the spot.
"Uh well, I just kinda sat around. I missed you, erm- I mean we hadn't seen each other in awhile yknow" she shrugs casually
Alex looks over at her, "You missed me?"
"Yeah, why wouldn't I?" She smiles slightly trying to stay calm "We always have a lot of fun together, you're my closest friend, literally and metaphorically"
The comment makes Alex laugh quietly
"Well I feel the same way about you. I missed you too actually" which was true.
If Alex admitted what he was thinking last night, he'd be mortified. They both kept that secret from each other. But unbeknownst to them, they felt the same way for each other.

"Well, why didn't you call me? You have my number doofus" Y/N nudges him playfully

"Why didn't you call me? The phone works both ways yknow" Alex nudges her back

She thinks about it for a second and smiles looks down at her controller
"I don't really know why I didn't now that I think of it. I was scared you wouldn't pick up."

Alex laughs quietly, "Y/N I'll always pick up the phone for you, no matter what I'm doing." He looks into her eyes, "No matter what's going on it'll just be the two of us on the phone."

"Just the two of us?" She smiles
"Just the two of us." Alex flicks her forehead playfully
