"Hey, I'm sorry. Do you know where the gym hall is?"

Malia looked up from her phone, a boy the same age as her was standing opposite, he was holding a timetable but had a confused expression on his face. She nodded and  got up and picked her bag. "Yeah, I'm going past there. I can show you."

"This school is massive,"

Malia let out a small chuckle. "You'll get used to it. You new?"

The boy nodded. "Yeah, I just moved here with my Aunt May. I'm Peter.... Parker." he held out his hand for her to shake it.

"Malia Leeds." she smiled, shaking it.

"Malia," he repeated. "It's a nice name."

"Thanks... Peter's a good name too. Did you know it means rock?"

"Oh yeah? That's because I rock." he put head down and sighed. "And I will never tell that joke ever again."

"I thought it rocked." Malia laughed.

Peter grinned as they stopped outside of the gym hall.

"Well here we are, welcome to Midtown High." Malia said.

"Thank you for showing me around."

"No worries."

The bell rang for class.

"I better head to my class, Mr Harrington isn't a fan of lateness."

"Yeah... I'll see you around, Malia."

"See you around, Peter."

Malia smiled as she walked away from the hall, somewhat of a pep in her step.

Once Malia introduced Peter and Ned they instantly became friends. The three of them would hang out during breaks and after class. They grew closer as they got older, and slowly Malia gained a crush on Peter.

But she knew he liked Liz Toomes, and he didn't hide it from his friends. One day she saw him walk back into class with a huge grin on his face.

"Why are you so happy?"

He took his seat next to her. "I just asked Liz to Homecoming and she said yes."

"Oh?" Malia said with hidden disappointment. "She actually said yes?"

"Yeah." he leaned back on his chair, she watched his eyes lighten up and how he couldn't stop smiling. "You going?"

"Nah." she shook her head. "It sounds boring."

Peter shrugged and returned to his work. Malia's stomach dropped, but she ignored it, it was stupid to think her best friend would like her back.
