Ladybug and Adrien secretly dated for months. The day that Hawkmoth used Adrien against her was the day she had to end everything. Going to his house at night, goodbye kisses, cuddles. It was the worst day of Ladybug's life.

Ladybug burst through her skylight and collapsed onto the bed. She pulled her knees up to her chest, sniffling and wiping tears that started to roll down her cheeks.

Adrien Agreste meant everything to her. Her heart ached at the thought of hurting him, even months after the breakup, even if he was trying to be strong about it.

Tears ran down her face and she didn't dare face him. She heard her name escape his lips and the feel of his hand on her shoulder. Ladybug spun on her heels, wrapping her arms tightly around his waist and burying her face into his shoulder. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry I put you in danger. I never wanted it to be this way."

"I know. But you saved me. I can always count on you to save me."

"But what if I can't?" She finally looked up at him, letting him see the most vulnerable part of her as hot, fat tears cascaded off her jawline. "You and Chat Noir are always so consistent on me being able to save the day, but you have no idea how much stress and pressure that puts on me. The thought of losing you tears me apart inside."

Adrien wiped the tears from her face and cupped her chin in his hands. "I'm so sorry I caused you so much distress, my sweet bug. You know I'll always be here. I'll believe in you, even if you don't believe in yourself."

She pried her arms off of him and wiped her cheeks with her clad suit sleeve before letting her arms fall to her sides.

"No, you won't." she sniffled. She began walking to the window, her back toward him because she didn't have the strength to say this to his face. "You w-won't always be here. I can't put you in danger like that ever again. I care about you too much to see Hawkmoth use you as a pawn. I'm sorry, Adrien, I don't think I can do this anymore. If we stop seeing each other, Hawkmoth won't see you as a liability anymore."

"It's okay." There was a waver in his voice. He wasn't okay. "I understand."

Ladybug didn't say anything else. She unclenched her fists and grabbed her yo-yo with shaky hands. Her feet lifted from the hardwood floor of his bedroom, and it was the last time she had been back there. The last time Ladybug had seen him.

Seeing him at school was the worst torture Marinette had to endure—or so she thought. What's worse then seeing the love of your life forcing smiles, burying his pain deeps in the depths of his being, and not being able to do anything besides sit there and watch? Ladybug told him she would be his knight in shining armor; that she would rescue him from his jail cell of a home. She never wanted to break that promise.

Now, there was another girl. Someone who got him smiling—Marinette noticed it wasn't as big as the smiles she was able to form, and his eyes didn't shine with joy and life like they did when she was around—someone who probably got his mind off of the lifestyle he was forced to live, someone who related to him and maybe even promised to save him. To save both of them. Because Kagami Tsurgi was a determined fighter who always got what she set her mind on.

Being with Adrien with her mask on made Marinette become more confident when she didn't have it on. She could actually speak more than one sentence because she knew the blonde. Before she dated him as Ladybug, all she ever wanted was to get to know him, but she let her insecurities get the best of her. When she first started seeing him, she knew it was the most riskiest decision she ever made, but she figured it would make her become better at talking to him as Marinette. She let her lovestruck emotions get in the way when she started going back to his house almost every night, having late night talks, giving him soft kisses on the cheek, holding his hand, and finally the sweet, lingering taste of his lips on hers was when she knew this path took a different turn. Adrien wouldn't have eyes for Marinette when he had already fallen head over heels for Ladybug.
