yooooo it's been a hot minute yall

anyways, i hope you had a good break! mine was pretty decent, i got a ukulele and i love playing it :)

we got our large group ensemble pieces on monday and holy shit im gonna scream.

ok ok ok so we've got

flight of valor by james swearingen. this one is actually pretty good and sounds cool. it looks intimidating but i've broken it down a lot and i'm getting the hang of it quickly. there's lots of mixed meter but it's only like a few measures at a time. i'm excited and so far it's my favorite

bonds of unity by karl l. king (arr. james swearingen). perish. this is our march. it's in cut time and hella fast. many runs. i will simply cry. but the key switches between Eb and Ab so that's simple enough :)

a symphonic celebration by robert sheldon. i will simply cry over this one. it switches between 5/4 and 3/4. why. why. also every part has an open key signature, and the music is just marked with a shit ton of accidentals. there's so much wrong with this piece. i don't wanna play it. why. screaming. crying. throwing up. very much not material girl.

ANYWAYS yeah but the association we compete through got rid of sight reading because they aren't gonna have enough judges so thank god for that.

question of the entry -

did you practice over winter break at all? yes. even if you just played a scale. it counts. you did something :)

i actually practiced around an hour a day i'm pretty proud of myself :)
