Trigger warning- mentions of past child abuse & scars

"You're an early riser." Carol's voice called out the following morning.
You looked up from where you were restocking the campfire to find the woman walking into camp after no doubt sleeping in her horse cart.
"I got coffee, curtesy of Hilltop. Think that will make up for how I was acting last night?" She asked, holding a small container in her hands.
"You were just looking out for Daryl, I respect that. But, yes, coffee will definitely work."
Neither of you spoke for a while after that, you just watched as the older woman began boiling water over the campfire and pouring it into two cups with the coffee.
"It would be better with milk and sugar, but we're gonna have to make do." Carol said, handing you one of the cups. "I have two of these containers of coffee, you guys can have one."
"Thank you. I can't even remember the last time I had coffee." You sighed in delight, taking a sip of the warm liquid, loving the sweet smell as you continued drinking.
"I know you're the woman who helped Ezekiel and his soldiers take over the community from the dead. I know you're the woman who took care of Henry all those years ago when his father was killed during that same fight. He told me a lot about you, they both did." Carol admitted, catching your attention as you looked over at the other woman curiously.
"Zeke saved my life, well him and Jesus did. How is Henry and Benjamin anyway? I bet Henry is just as tall as his brother now." You said with a small smile as you thought about the two boys, but your smile quickly disappeared when you saw the expression on Carol's face.
Shit, something bad happened.
"Benjamin died a few years ago, I'm sorry." Carol said softly and you felt your heart drop at the news.
Benjamin was dead... that happy, caring, full of life little boy you had taken under your wing all those years ago, was dead? What about Henry? What about Zeke? That would have crushed them.
"Henry is okay, he's nearly as tall as Benjamin was. He misses him, and he misses you. Never shuts up about the 'warrior who helped take over the Kingdom' and I'm not kidding."
You scoffed, shaking your head. That was definitely something Henry would say. "You seem to talk to Henry a lot, who is he to you?" You asked curiously.
"My son. Ezekiel and I are married."
Well, shit. You didn't see that coming.
"Should I start calling you Queen then?" You asked with a chuckle, but Carol shook her head. "I get it, those titles aren't for everyone. I'm happy for you guys though. He's a good man, but if you ever hurt him or Henry then I'll slit your throat in your sleep."
Carol smiled, "I think you and I are gonna get along."
"Have ya killed each other yet?" Daryl's voice suddenly questioned and you glanced over to his tent to find him walking towards you guys with an amused smile.
"Relax Pookie, we're good. But, I should probably head off anyway if I want to make it back to Kingdom before dark. It was nice meeting you, Y/N. Ezekiel and Henry will be glad to hear that you're back in the area." Carol replied, placing her now empty cup on the ground as she stood up giving you a friendly smile before she walked over to Daryl and pulled him into a hug.
"Be safe." Daryl muttered hugging the woman back as you stayed where you were not wanting to intrude on their goodbye.
"I always am, but be safe too, alright?"
