The name Cedric is considered noble, regal, handsome and intelligent. It can also mean kindly and loved. Connecting that to the 4th movie and book they called him a handsome and intelligent guy. 

And the last name Diggory means off of the right path, this can show that joining the triwizard tournament and getting the cup at the maze took a turn for the worst at least for him.

 Also 'Diggory' means "lost one" and it can refer to when his family lost him in the Triwizard tournament. So lost can mean when he got murdered.
