CHAPTER 6

"Laura?" I called as the doorbell rang, I opened the door to find Pat.

"Hello!" He greeted, holding out my letter.

"Hi, I forgot that it's been a week." I smiled, taking the letter.

"Should mark every Monday on your calendar, then you won't ever forget." Pat advised. I nodded thoughtfully.

"Great idea, how many letters will I get though?" I asked. Pat shrugged.

"Not one clue, how's your Christmas shopping?" Pat questioned, my hand flew to my mouth.

"Shit, what's the date?"

"The 17th, don't worry, you still have a week." Pat chuckled. I sighed.

"Thank god. I'm going shopping tomorrow." I told him, he laughed.

"Have fun, I’ll see you on Christmas Eve." Pat turned away.

"Hey!" I exclaimed and he faced me again.

"Don't come on Christmas Eve. Go have fun with your friends or family, just tell Liam to leave it on my door step." I told him, he smiled and nodded.

"I will. Bye!" He waved and left. I smiled and went inside.

I immediately opened the letter and began to read.

Dear Gabby,

Remember that time when we went fishing together and you pushed me in the water and started laughing at me so I dragged you in too? I wish we could go back to that, it is one of my best memories with you. That was the first time we watched the sunset and started our tradition.

I wish I could still do that with you. The day after you got your letter I was watching the sunset, and I thought of you; just how we used to sit. I miss it. I miss us, but it's necessary, please know that it's necessary.

It wasn't what it looked like, I promise.

On a completely different note, Christmas is nearly here. Promise me you'll spend it with friends? Don't be alone; I hate it when I know you're going to be alone. Being without you is hard; knowing you’re alone is harder.
