third person pov:
A couple months ago, Dylan auditioned for a movie called Not Okay. It was a short process, he got a few call backs and ended up hearing back sooner than he expected. He had gotten the part! Since then, he and the cast have had several table reads, which was when the producers and director, Quinn Shephard, explained their visualisations of the movie to him and specifically what his character, Colin, was going to look like. Buzzed, bleached hair, short beard and tattoos scattered across both of his arms. But since it was meant to be a little surprise, they told him to keep it on the down low. So even after all these weeks, Dylan still hadn't been able to tell his girlfriend of three– almost four– years, Y/N, that he was bleaching, and buzzing his hair in just a couple days.
Since the movie is set to begin shooting today, the hair and makeup crew will be transforming Dylan into his character. And as much as Dylan tried to hide it, he was thrilled. Everyone knows he's familiar with a buzz cut but bleached hair is new and exciting, same with the fake tattoos. Y/N was no beginner when it came to tattoos, she has always loved tattoos, so in the back of her mind, she has always wondered what Dylan would look like with some, even just one that only she would get to see.
In this whole plan to keep the transformation a secret, Dylan was most excited to see Y/N's reaction. He loved that she had absolutely no idea, he wanted to surprise her. It was a regular occurrence for her to visit him on set so he knew she would come today, afterall it is the first day and she always loved to see the process of production. Nonetheless, Dylan had left her a note just in case, giving her all the details she needed, what time, where to meet him, and so on.
dylan's pov:
The alarm blared loudly in me and Y/N's bedroom, a sound that we both hated with a passion. It only ever reminded me of the times I had to leave my soft and warm, heavenly-like bed and get ready for the day, which also meant no more cuddling until nighttime. But thankfully, I still had 20 minutes left until I had to get out of bed and get to work. I groaned loudly, the muscles in my back practically begging to be stretched as I turned off the alarm. "Good morning, Y/N/N," I rasped, turning over to face her. When she didn't wake up I took it upon myself to move closer and give chaste little kisses all across her face. Her nose, eyebrows, forehead, cheeks and finally lips.
"Ugh, morning breath," Y/N joked, giggling as she pushed me away lightly. I laughed, then let out a heavy breath in her direction, "You can't escape it."
Y/N shook her head, laughing, "Oh, I definitely can. You have like 15 minutes until you have to get ready."
"Yes, but until then, I get to lay with you. That's why I set the alarm a little earlier; quality time, love, quality time," I stated, cozying up to my lovely girlfriend and pulling her closer.
The next 15 minutes went by quickly, which only meant I had to fully get up for work. I hate how time is always the same yet it passes so much faster when you're doing something you actually like. For example, cuddling.
Once I was finished eating, washing my face and brushing my teeth, I scurried around the house trying to collect everything that I needed for my first day; phone, wallet, script, etc.
Before going to say goodbye, I wrote down some of the details Y/N would need to know to get on set and preferably what time would work best. I actually just wrote the time that I knew my hair and fake tats would be done and ready to show off.Come by set at around 9:45, I want to introduce you to the cast!
Text me when you leave home. I love you!
xoxo,
DylanWalking back to our shared room, I knocked on the door quietly and opened the door. Y/N was still wrapped up in our blankets and comforter. "Okay, I'm headed off," I said as I walked towards the bed. Y/N turned over to face me slowly, a soft smile on her lips, "Bye, Dyl. I'll see you soon."
I leaned down to kiss her forehead and then her lips, "I love you, see you later." She nodded, "I love you. Have fun." She stared at me for a moment, smiling, then pulled on the back of my neck so she could give me one more kiss. "Okay, now you can go.""Now I can go?," I laughed lightly, standing up straight and walking to the bedroom door. Y/N nodded as she called out, "Yep, don't miss me too much!"
"No promises!," I called back, now walking through the kitchen on my way to the front door.
Approximately 25 minutes later I arrived on set, ready to start the transformation. I parked near the trailers, locking and getting out of my car to say hi to the directors and some of the other members of the cast and production team.
"Hey, Dylan! Good morning, you should start heading to the hair and makeup trailer. It's the second trailer on your left, when you walk out. And I'll ask the AD to show you to yours once you're ready," the director explained, giving me some basic directions. I nodded, "Perfect, thank you! I'm excited for the new look!"
"Hi guys! I'm Dylan," I said, walking into the hair and makeup trailer. The team of four turned to me all saying hi and introducing themselves; Carly, Jonathan, Cindy and Valencia. Two seconds later I was in a chair and saying goodbye to the majority of my hair.
It was fascinating, seeing the process and seeing how it ended up looking on me. I now sat in the makeup chair, getting the last few tattoos done when I got a text from Y/N.
Y/N: just left, will be there in about 20 minutes
Me: okay, come to the hair and makeup trailer and then i'll show you around.
Y/N: sounds good :)15 minutes later, the tattoos were all done. "Wow, you guys. These look sick," I exclaimed, loving the look I was sporting for my character as I examined the fake ink on my arms in the mirror. Cindy and Valencia smiled, brushing off the compliment but appreciated my reaction.
A knock was heard at the door before it swung open, revealing Y/N. My smile widened. She is gonna be in shock. Y/N smiled as she walked in, but her mouth fell open as soon as she saw me. "Oh my god. What the hell? Is this real?" I nodded simply, "Yea, this is my character! Well, the tattoos are fake but I wanted to surprise you so I never said anything."
"You sneaky little bastard. But holy shit, you look amazing. Truly. I love it," Y/N continued to examine the new look, turning to the four hair and makeup workers, "You guys did such a good job, wow. The tattoos look so real! Please show me how you did this." The team of four laughed, both Cindy and Valencia agreeing to show Y/N the process tomorrow.
"And the hair! It looks so good!" Y/N exclaimed, coming over to run her hands over the short hair on my head. I closed my eyes, laughing at her child-like reaction and the twinkle in her eyes. Once she admired it for a few more minutes, I decided to show her around.
"Bye guys, see you at the end of the day. Thank you for the awesome look!," I said to the hair and makeup team, walking out of the trailer after Y/N. I put my arm around the back of her neck, her head coming up to rest on my shoulder.
"You look so hot, Dylan. Not everyone can pull off bleached hair. But you do. Like, really well. I can't believe you didn't tell me." I chuckled, kissing her head, "You're too sweet, inflating my ego like this."
"Yeah, well don't get used to it... Although it's a shame I won't be able to pull on your hair anymore. That was always fun," she said shrugging, making my breath hitch. "Wait, Y/N. You can't just say that and pretend you didn't say that!," I stressed.
