Yeah I'm sure you can tell where my priorities are at...mmm tall mysterious man again. Anyways this is based off the Chinese New Year event.
I smiled as I saw my lantern take off into the sky. The candle light illuminating the paper design on the outside like a lampshade. The sky was still light as the sun was setting, barely peeking out from the horizon. Orange and pink hues streaked across the cold sky, the winter breeze was dry yet frosty, in contrast to the beaming sun, its final few rays casting a golden glow onto the land. My lantern was no where near as spectacular as the setting sun, the orange orb emitting such vibrant colours in contrary to my pathetic flame. On the inside of the lantern I had left wishes for the new year, hopes for a good year of prosperity and joy. The new year had a feeling of no other holiday, the atmosphere was so cold yet so warm and hopeful. The orange hues of the skies faded into the dark blues of the night, the sky was split between dark and light at this part of the sunset. I sat on the grass of the valley, some distance away from the town as I watched my lantern drift further away, travelling above the town. It was tradition for me to do this, mainly alone as I liked people to see just my single lantern float above the buildings like a charm. Each time I did this, a certain man noticed. Xie Bian looked to the sky to see the lantern drifting in the sky, lowering as the flame grew duller. It was practically headed towards him as it lowered, he caught it before it hit the ground, looking up to see where it had come from. In the distance, he saw the higher land of the valley, peeking up above the buildings of the small town.
I sat and wondered what the new year would hold as I looked at the sky. I had lost track of the Lantern, it had most likely landed someplace in the town. I picked at the grass mindlessly, playing with the small leaves in my hands as I became deep in thought. Many a year had been like this, me sat upon the valley alone overlooking the town, each time I reflected on the previous times I had been here - what I was thinking about this time a year ago. How I always thought that this year would be the one, only to sit here a year later and think the same thing again. It was a looping cycle that was fascinating to me, I hadn't ever expected it to be broken.
I heard footsteps in the distance, the crunching of grass alerting me of a presence. I snapped out of my daze, turning to face the source of the sound. I turned to see the Master of Yi walking towards me, lantern in hand. I squinted to see it was mine I had set off not so long ago. "I believe this is yours" he said, an amused smile creeping onto his face. He always seemed so mysterious, perhaps it was how he composed himself - or perhaps it was just the glasses. "Ah it is" I said, smiling back as he approached. He sat beside me on the grass, placing the lantern in front of me. "I hadn't expected anyone to bring it back to me" I said, a shy smile crowning my features as I looked away, back at my lantern. I could feel his eyes on me as he watched me, taking in my reactions. I was obviously flustered. "I've noticed you do this every year" he said, looking to the sky, admiring the view from the high point. "Yeah, I do" I said wondering why he cared to notice in the first place. Many people ignored it as it was normal at this time of year.
We spoke for a while as the sun gradually lowered beneath the horizon, the final rays of light disappearing into darkness of the night. We conversed about many things, mainly about the new year and our hopes for the upcoming year. The sky became darker as we spoke, and we both noticed this once we stopped talking.
"It's late, we should go back now" he said, standing up. I nodded in agreement. As I went to stand up, I saw him offer his hand, which I took with a smile. "Thanks" I said, as I brushed off my skirt, stray pieces of grass falling to the floor. After speaking with him, he still had a mysterious aura, maybe it was just who he was. He was wise yet laid back, and quite intellectual which was usually intimidating. "Do you want me to walk you home?" He asked as we walked down the stone path of the valley, leading back into the town. I noticed just how dark it had gotten. "Are you sure?" I asked, afraid of wasting his time.
"Of course" he said, smiling cheerfully as he looked down at me. "Okay" I said, his presence comforting me. It wasn't my first time with this guy and because of his presence in the community, I trusted him greatly. I wouldn't have taken his offer if he was some creeper anyways. The walk back to my house flew by as we spoke, becoming immersed in conversation once again, not even noticing the long walk going by. These conversations were the best, the ones you can get fully immersed in and all sense of time becomes forgotten.
Eventually, I made it back home, much to my dismay. "I wish I could speak longer but, I have to go" I said, looking up at him with a half smile, laced with slight diss appointment of our departure. "It's okay, there's always next year" he giggled at his own stupid joke, to which I looked at him with distaste. I then nodded,"you're right, I'll see you soon" I said, turning to walk away. Before I could even complete a step, he pulled me in for a kiss on the cheek, the smell of expensive perfume smacking me along with it. I blushed at his affection, his face had a big grin on as he parted, seeing just how flustered I was. He then turned and waved goodbye, without a word of what just happened. "See you tomorrow!" He said cheerfully, probably chuffed with his ability to get me riled up with simple actions. I stood in disbelief for a moment before turning to open my door and go inside, sitting down to process the events of the night. The loop of lonely New Years had been broken by him, swooping in and gathering me in his arms, coddling me all night. I blushed as his kiss replayed in my mind, the feeling of his soft lips lingering on my cheek. I hadn't expected it. Perhaps it was a sign of good luck for the new year?I was gonna make this a sad fic with a bad ending but fuck it, nice Wu Chang for once. Noticed that all my non-lemons are usually angst so I'm spicing it up. Anyway I have two other fics coming soon for COA 5 and I managed to get the José one back on track woo
