I once heard as a young girl that dance is how some people express themselves. Those were people like my mother. She hardly ever spoke, but she didn't need to. The way she floated through our small house made up for it.

She danced to say that she loved me. She danced to say that she and my father would always be proud of me. She danced to tell me the stories of our ancestors who had taught her their stories through dance.

Her dance was the most beautiful in our city. People would come from everywhere to watch her, even our king and his son came to watch us on occasion, though his brother never came.

I loved to dance as much as she did. We would spend hours every day practising control over the way that the music ran through our veins like blood, creeping into every nerve and setting it on fire with passion.

But sadly, I could never be as good as her. You see, I had similar magic to her. Our magic was the strongest when we danced, but she had my father. A catalyst to her magic that enhanced every movement. I did not have a catalyst for my magic.

I danced by myself.
