When he recovered his senses, he found himself in the Maw, the deepest corner of the Shadowlands, the land of the dead. Not for long, for he had the aid of some of his knights that were also taken there. All of them escaped the damned place and ascended to a medium place on the lands beyond the veil.
On the Shadowlands, he saw what vengeance could have done to him. Not only Lord Uther himself, the founder and former head of the Order of the Silver Hand by the time Eadric was anointed, but many other distinguished figures of Lordaeron became Forsworns, a group of zealots that wanted to disrupt the order of Bastion, one of the centers of these lands.

Lord Ashfall realized he almost became like them: almost became everything he fought against.
Aided by the former paladin Bolvar Fordragon, he was able to gather the souls of many Lordaeronian Paladins that died when the plague arrived almost 30 years ago. He founded the Lightsworn, henceforth a branch of the Church of the Holy Light in afterlife, whose duty was to guide the spirits of dead Paladins in the Shadowlands, to be properly trained and protected in Oribos, to prevent them from going to Bastion and becoming a Forsworn such as Lord Uther himself. The former Highlord had committed such mistake, as he used the injustice that took their lives and the lives of their beloved ones as fuel for vengeance.
In this land of afterlife, Ashfall also met Z'rali, a Naaru and a being of pure Light. This being also acted with vengeance when faced with the injustice of Sire Denathrius, one of the Eternal Ones, ruler of Ravendreth, one of the dimensions of the Shadowlands.

This Naaru taught Ashfall that justice, not vengeance, was able to survive and be realized even in afterlife, as justice was served to Denathrius in the end, after he was overthrown by Prince Renathal and the living in Castle Nathria. Therefore, even the Light would be able to perish in the lands of death if justice were preserved.
In this moment Ashfall had an epiphany. Justice for Lordaeron and for Lara'nar would not have to happen by the form of war against the Undead in the world of the living, but, if detached from vengeance, justice could be a means to bring peace even in the afterlife to every person that suffered the evil in the North.
After the encounter with this being, after purging himself of his desire for vengeance and finding in the Shadowlands the meaning of Justice, Eadrid understood his true purpose: it was not making war in Lordaeron, but it was becoming a paragon of the Holy Light, bringing this teachings with him when he returned through the veil.
Not vengeance, which is retribution based on the darkness of the world, but justice, which is retribution based on the purity of the Light, was the response one should give to evil and to injustice.
At this moment, freed from vengeance for the first time, Eadric found peace in his new purpose, finally redeeming himself. He found what he needed to become one with the Light.
