Chapter Twenty-Seven: Dear Old Acquaintance

The moment I dreaded came when I shot open my eyes: I had to go to school. My body started to recover from the chills I endured during what I will call my dream. What I also noticed was that the flat was silent. No gunshots, no violin, and no John and Sherlock. Dragging myself off the couch, I threw on a grey shirt and black jeans with red sneakers that stretched to my ankle. As I was about to walk out the door, I saw a note on the table, from John. I walked up to it and read as I threw my hair up and tied it off.

Have a good day Aspen
~John & Sherlock

They're funny. I also liked how John had written Sherlocks name for him. That showed real care from him. Walking outside, my body had recovered from the dream, but it was still stamped in my memory. I then noticed it was only seven-thirty, and the school wasn't that far away. Guess it'll be a short walk.

When I got to school it seemed almost empty. Usually people don't start arriving until like fifteen minutes before class starts. I decided to go to the library, but it was a long walk from the back of the school. I passed a field where some people were hanging out and saw Wyatt amongst them. I looked away before he could see me and start bothering me. I managed to walk inside and upstairs before I was disturbed.

"Do you have a pass?" I heard someone ask, and turned to see that boy. Wyatt had a smirk across his face, and he had a light green jacket over his red and black plaid shirt.
I ignored him and walked into the library, taking out my book at a table and started to read.
"Did you do the homework?" He asked, taking out a white binder tearing at the seams.
"Mh-hm." I sounded annoyingly.
He started talking about this girl who looked weird eating chips or something as I kept reading my book and thought about John and Sherlock.

I looked across to Wyatt, once again staring off into space.
"Don't you have somewhere to be?" I asked. His cocoa bean coloured eyes shifted to me as his expression was blank.
"What?" He asked, but before I could respond, he snatched my book from me. "What's this?" He asked, "Phan-"
"No, um-" I started, reaching across and getting out of my seat to take my book back.
"This movie sucked." he said, tossing the book onto the table.
"Well good for you." I said, taking it and my bag to get out.
"Wait! I don't have any other friends to hang out with!" He called as I made my way down a cream-coloured staircase in the corner of the school.
"We're friends?" I scoffed as I headed to my first class.
"Yeah... Right?" He asked, and we both stopped. I was silent for a minute, before shaking my head.
"No... No." I said softly, ignoring a pull in my stomach. Not looking back to Wyatt, I walked into my Maths class.

I didn't speak to him in English that day, just scribbled down sample lines of poetry for our new unit. Something wanted me to turn around to where he sat, but I was too stubborn.

I managed to survive without falling into Dakotas taunting as I walked back to the flat.
"We're friends... right?" Echoed in my head. Most certainly not, was about ninety five percent of what my mind thought of, crushing the five percent that was desperately trying to surface.

When I walked into 221, I saw Sherlock standing in front of the wall above the couch, covered in a map and pictures. I start walking towards the kitchen when I bump into someone, who is Lestrade.
"Oh- sorry." I said.
"It's cool." he said, and I sat down in the kitchen, taking out my homework.
I soon got so consumed by it I didn't hear Mrs. Hudson come in, not that I would care. I looked over to see her talking to Lestrade as Sherlock was on the phone my the fireplace. I stacked my papers and stood to go over to Lestrade and Mrs. Hudson when Sherlock comes over.
"Great... Thank you." he said, then moved back over to the fireplace. Mrs. Hudson then looked at this picture of a woman sadly.

"It was a real shame. I liked her. She taught you how to do your colours!" She said to Lestrade and I.
"Colours?" Lestrade asked.
"You know, what goes best with what. I should never wear cerise. It drains me. Oh.." She explained, then looked to me. "Red is a good colour on you, sweetie." she added.
"You have no idea." I thought as Sherlock came over, gazing at his wall of wonders he had going on here.
"Who was that?" Lestrade asked.
"Home office." Sherlock said, most of his attention on his work on the wall.
"Home office?" Lestrade asked, seemingly surprised.

"Well, Home Secretary actually. Owes me a favour." Sherlock corrected, then noticed me. "Oh- when'd you get here?" He asked as Mrs. Hudson continued talking to Lestrade. "Did you ever see her show?" She asked us.
"Not until now." Sherlock said, his voice lost in concentration, then his hand went for the telly remote. He turned it on to a woman and a man on a talk show, it seemed.
"That's the brother. No love lost there, if you've seen the papers." Mrs. Hudson informed.
"So I gather. I've just been having a fruitful chat with people who loved this show. Fan sites- indispensable for gossip." Sherlock spoke as the woman chanted "off! Off! Off!" To her brother, who seems annoyed and in pain.

Later, Mrs. Hudson had left but I sat on the couch, reading as Lestrade and Sherlock exchanged words. A ring interrupts both my reading and and their speaking. I see Sherlock fish in his pocket for his phone, then answer it.
"John?" He answered. After a while, he said, "I'll remember." Then hung up, looking at me. "Aspen, get a pen. We're going to visit your uncle. He's onto something." he ordered in a hurry to get his jacket. I looked to Lestrade as I went to my bag to get a pen.
"Aspen!" Sherlock called.
"I'm coming, gosh." I said to myself, putting on a black sweater over my grey shirt before following Sherlock.
