3rd POV:

Hisoka carries Umi, arriving at a gate before the second phase. Umi is embarassed by the stares of others, and when he's put down, he scrambles away from the magician. Hisoka simply smiles at him, letting him escape.

Umi sits down on the side and tries to hold down a panic attack. He was just possesed by whatever is protecting him and now the creepy clown wannabe is keeping an eye on him. He's here for a license, not a death wish!

"Hey, are you okay?" A voice asks, and Umi looks up to see a small 12 year old with black-green spiky hair and brown, concerned eyes. "Ah, yes." Umi lies, calming down as the conversation distracts him. "Gon, what are you doing? Don't talk to the guy!" A voice whines behind the boy, and the whiner is revealed to be an equally short boy with white fluffy hair and blue eyes. "But Killua, he's upset!" "So what if he's upset, he knew what he was getting himself into by entering the exam! Now let's go!" The two argue, until Umi speaks up.

"Um, I thank you for the concern. I'm good now so you don't need to comfort me..." Umi says. Gon beams, while Killua just huffs in victory before the two walk off and leave Umi alone.

A bit farther away, two characters stand side by side and watch the scared host. "Don't hurt the boy, Gittaracur. He's going to be a fun toy!~" Hisoka says in delight, replaying the scene where you countered his card in his mind. "Whatever." The male next to him says.

It's a tall guy with purplish skin and a short, purple mohawk. He has a ridiculous amount of yellow needles in his skin, and some in his clothes.

"I mean it-" Hisoka starts, but then the large gate to the second exam opens.

There stands a pretty green eyed woman with her light green hair in segments, and a fat man with his stomach poking out from under his shirt.

"Welcome, my name is Menchi, and this is my coexaminer, Buhara. We're gourmet hunters. And therefore, this phase will be... cooking!" She exclaims, making the examinees chatter in confusion and offense. "Cooking? We want to become hunters, not cook!" One speaks up, making her frown. "Buhara." She commands, and the other examiner stands up. "Your task is to prepare food from any pigs you find in the forest, and you only pass if we both find it delicious." He says. Soon, everyone heads to the woods.

It's not long before the pigs are found, and thanks to Gon's quick thinking, their weakness of being their foreheads is revealed. Even Umi manages to get a pig and get it to cook. He follows pretty much what everyone does, roasting the pig whole over a fire.

However, he still sees the thing as food and once it's done, he walks to Menchi. "Um, excuse me." He speaks up, making the examiner look at him. Menchi turns her head and her eyes widen a little at the sight of the male as she looks him up and down. "What is it?" She responds while checking him out. "Is there anything I could season the pig with?" Umi asks, and she nods. "There are some in those cabinets over there." She points out. "Thank you." Umi smiles and dashes off, not noticing Menchi's ears tinting red in a subtle blush.

Umi gets some salt, pepper, powder garlic and paprika. All of those are evenly spread on the pig as he makes sure not to miss anything to make it all taste equally. It's at this point that Menchi and Buhara try out first pigs. Buhara approves all of them indiscriminately, while Menchi turns them down for lack of presentation or how cooked the pig is. When Umi is about to go up to the examiners, he sees a blonde man present the food neatly arranged, but he is immediately scolded for the lack of taste. This makes Umi panic and also cut up the meat into slabs. Then, he adds some salad leaves to decorate and slices up some tomatoes to put in at the side. Then he takes a deep breath and goes up.

Menchi's eyes widen at the sight of the meal she's presented as it looks like an actual dish for a change. Buhara takes some as well and since he's pretty fed after previous meals, he's not too hungry for more and approves it. Menchi doesn't just judge without eating this one, and stabs her fork into it. She avoids looking into Umi's anxious deep blue eyes so her judgement isn't swayed. At least not as much.

The meat is a bit too tough as he didn't cook it at the right speed and the fire was a bit too strong, but it's properly seasoned and looks good. Plus... Menchi looks up at Umi, and her ears tint red again. She's quiet, but raises the red O in meaning he passes. Umi's eyes grow wide, but then he grins and does a little victory dance. This isn't well recieved as several others complain.

"Isn't it a bit excessive, to fail every applicant except of one?" Sounds out a voice as a zeppelin with the Hunter Association logo on the side. Menchi panics a little as it descends and Chairman Netero walks out. Netero is an older looking man with white hair in a ponytail and a beard with a black tip. His earlobes are a bit stretched, and he wears a traditional man's kimono.

Menchi is scolded for letting her hatred from being teased by the applicants get better of her, and everyone is taken up into the zepellin to fly to a replacement test, on top of a split mountain. The task is to jump down into the split, get a spider eagle egg and get back up to boil it. Since Umi was already approved, he gets to not do it.

He though stands by the edge and looks down as others do the exam, getting stared at by Menchi. And even though others came up, he still gazes down at the gap, seeing clouds under.

Umi whips around to see Hisoka almost next to him and shivers, then walks towards the zeppelin as the magician stares at him with an eerie smirk.

Most examinees are passed, the rest have died by falling. All remaining ones board the zeppelin, where they will finally have some rest. Umi gets to his room and finally lays down, where he shuts his eyes, falling asleep as they fly.
