CHAPTER TWENTY ONE!
trust

"you look like you've just woke up, are you sure you were awake?" Cami whispered to Matt as they walked down the hall, trying not to wake up the others

"what? yeah i went for a nap earlier i'm not even tired" he lied, knowing he had only woken up when he got a text from the girl, also knowing he could never say no to her

cami also knew he was lying but she didn't push it any further, he was a bad liar and she pretended to be gullible, thats how it always was with them

The two 'swam' around for a while, which consisted of them hitting each other with pool noodles and splashing one another with water until Matt pretended he was drowning and Cami almost had a heart attack

That was when they decided it was best to - almost - call it a night, they sat on the lounge chairs beside the pool as they watched the sunrise together. Talking about silly little things that'd probably mean nothing to anyone listening, but to them it was times like these they enjoyed most

"i feel like we haven't hung out in forever, like just the two of us" cami said, looking down at her chipped nails nervously - not knowing where she was going with this statement

"what do you mean?" Matt replied, looking at her as he waited for a response

"well with me being away all summer, and you being busy with youtube, it just feels like we barely see each other anymore and-" Cami ranted slightly, stopping herself before she said something she regretted

"what? finish what you were gonna say"

"it's stupid"

"come on, tell me" he pushed, wanting to know what was on her mind before they parted ways for the night

"i've just been thinking that when i go to college we'll basically never see each other, like we'll be on opposite sides of the world and i know it's stupid but i feel like i'm already losing you, and i just think-"

there was no way cami was able to think, because as soon as she realised that Matt was moving towards her, she registered the fact that his hands were cupped around her cheeks and his lips were on hers

he was gentle, with the combination of the cool air she felt like she was floating, he held her face with enough of a grip to keep her in place, but not enough that she couldn't pull away. She was frozen in place, unable to process anything other than the fact her best friend was kissing her right now, and she hadn't done anything about it

He hesitated for a moment, partly as if to silently
ask if it was really okay, partly to ask himself if this
was really happening, but before Cami knew it,
she was kissing him again. And this time she was
an active participant in it

One of his hands had returned to her cheek, while
the other had found her hip, pulling her closer to
him, while also guiding her a few steps back to
push her up against the wall. Cami found herself
holding onto the back of his neck

This one wasn't gentle either. It was years of pent
up thoughts that he was unable to put into words on Matt's side mixed with the newly found discovery of Cami's feelings all wrapped up into something that was finally being expressed. Matt was sure in his actions, definitely more than Cami, knowing that he'd wanted nothing more than this exact moment for a while now. He had her now. He wasn't going to let her get away again

Cami's hands had moved from his neck to his chest now that she was in a more stable spot and mindset. She smiled against his lips as she felt him shake slightly once one of her hands met his hair. He slowly pulled away from her after this, allowing both of them to catch their breath. The smile on Cami's lips grew as he rested his forehead on hers, attempting to say something to make the situation less serious, as she'd done times before. But she had nothing

Matt's hand fell from her cheek to her neck. She stopped herself from shivering as the cool of the ring she'd given him last year for his birthday, pressed against her body. Cami kept one of hers in his hair, placing her other on his jaw, tracing his cheekbone with her finger

Cami lifted herself up on her toes to kiss him
again. It was soft, slower than before, though Matt's
grip on her neck was doing unimaginable things to
Cami right now. Despite this, it felt like there was
no rush this time. The last one had been to prove
something. This one was to make sure they were definitely on the same page

It wasn't until the hand that was on Cami's waist
began to creep up and meet the skin under her (Matt's) shirt that Cami began to think. Like actually
think. Think about this and about them and think
about the complications of everything and what
would happen and the fact she was fucking making out with Matt. She was crossing every sort of boundary she'd setup in her mind. This was real. They'd done it. They were doing it

And every flag, every wall, every dumb little worry
that Cami had suddenly began to emerge from
the ground and spooking her more than anything else in the world

She broke away from Matt with a gasp, putting a
hand on his chest as he noticed that everything
about her behaviour towards him had changed. He reached from her neck to her chin, using his fingers to make her look at him in the eye. She only blinked at him as he spoke. "What is it?" he asked, his voice sounding as concerned as he could be in his dazed state

Cami moved his hands away from her face, backing up as far as she could with the pool right behind her. "I- dont- uh-" she stammered, moving him away from her. Matt caught her wrists before she could move them away. "We can't- This isn't"

"This isn't what?" he asked.

Cami ripped her hands out of his grip, tears
pricking in her eyes, feeling every emotion so
intensely right now that she couldn't breathe.
There weren't words to describe how confused
she felt right now, looking at his face, knowing
what this was doing to him, but still unable to
describe how and why this felt so wrong to her. She
just couldn't do it.

She knew she liked him, a lot but She couldn't be here right now, not with him

"I'm not... I'm sorry. I just can't-" She said just loud enough for Matt to hear, unable to stop the tears that
were starting to stream down her face. "God, I'm sorry, I-"

"Cam.."

"This isn't right. It's not what we're supposed to do" She shook her head, moving backward toward the entrance of her garden, wanting to get into her car and drive as far away as possible. "This isn't what friends do"

Cami didn't stop when he started calling her
name as she ran to her car. She felt so bad. So
weird. She felt like she wanted to throw up, but also
jump around and freak out about everything that
had just happened. She wanted to kill herself for
leaving him out there like that. She wanted to do so
many things that she simply couldn't figure out the
right one to do

So, all she could do was get in her car and call Ross crying on the phone, telling him she was coming over because she needed some advice on what to do

So that's what she done, Ross gave her some pretty good advice that night, he told her it probably wasn't the best thing to do, leaving him alone and confused but that was something that could be fixed. It was all on her to get things right
