“Sorry, sir.” The way Chase answered him with full politeness and submission made me think that this man also had as much superiority as their Boss, or at least he had power over this group too, just like Andre.

But now the question was, why the hell was he hiding me from him?

“Now. Where is she?”

My left hand’s grip tightened on the tissues as I crumpled them up.

This was all too much. Every single person until now was looking for me. How is that even possible?! I felt like a wanted serial killer and the first one who caught me would receive some kind of bounty.

But what consumed me every day was that I wanted to know the reason? Why?

“Who, sir?”

“Don’t play dumb with me. Your Boss already told me.” This confirmed what I thought earlier. Yes, he had as much power as their Boss. “Now bring her to me with compliance before I get inside and fetch her myself.”

Chase, don’t you dare!

But something didn’t make any sense.

Didn’t their boss tell me I was the wrong person? If so, then why was everyone still looking for me?

“But Boss didn’t tell—”

“That’s quite enough from you, runt.”

“Sir, there’s no one in here.” Chase’s voice was laced with panic now. And I had to clasp my mouth shut with my hands when I heard the man’s voice and footfalls nearing me. “Sir—”

“Whose food is this?”

I had to inch backwards when I saw a sturdy figure enter the kitchen. I lowered my head a little to see his face.

“That’s mine,” Chase lied.

From his voice and built, I concluded he was a middle-aged man, appearing in his fifteens or fourteens. He was solidly built, making him even more menacing. The fact that he looked like a healthy old man who had power was threatening.

I inched closer to catch the man’s face. His aura felt like a bomb about to explode. A deep scowl ingrained itself in the man’s forehead. His focused eyes that were blazing with a heat I could feel all the way here caused my heart to stop beating for the longest second I ever felt.

His slightly lighter eyes locked gazes with mine.

I breathed in, springing backwards to break eye contact.

He was going to barge in, break the damn door to tiny pieces, and grab me by my hair, tearing it off and dragging me along with him to God knows where.

This was what I anticipated.

But this was not what happened.

He continued on as though he still had no idea where I was because he exited the kitchen with his booming footsteps.

My arms shot up to clutch my chest as I leaned forward, trying to even out my breathing again.

This was way too close…

I thought I was doomed.

I hated this. Hated him.

His face…

It was far from familiar. How in the world did he even know me?

I never met any of these people for God’s sake.

But they all seemed to know me. And they probably had eyes on me for months before all of this started, according to what Jesse said the two times before.
