Chapter 1

- Lone wolf -

Her classmates had started the rumor that she was a werewolf, just for fun. Of course she wasn't really, but she wanted to believe it, it gave her the illusion that she could do things that others couldn't even imagine. Living in a comforting world of her own fantasy was the only way she knew how to survive in exile from the pack.

Destiny Wolfe, the girl on everyone's lips but not in a good way, it's probably from her last name that her classmates took inspiration for their fanciful gossip, but Destiny doesn't mind, she doesn't particularly care what others think of her. She likes to think of herself as a lone wolf but in the end she too needs someone to be there for her, ever since her biological parents died she has felt the need to be strong, anytime, she doesn't want to rely on anyone, she doesn't want to get attached to anyone. The fear that the few people next to her could abandon her at any moment constantly haunts her. She was lucky enough to have been adopted by a couple who love her very much and are always there for her, although she didn't always make life easy for them, especially at the beginning. She was wary of them and their words, she didn't want to feel anything so she wouldn't get hurt, and maybe even a little bit now she continues to keep a barrier up, probably thinner than how it was just adopted, but she won't let it fall so easily. The only people she lets her guard down with are Nathan, her best friend, and Audrey, her little sister, not biological but from the heart.

"Hey alchemist"

"wolf"

"ready for this exciting day?"

"Sure"
The two communicate almost exclusively with irony, their best weapon.

They enter school going at a brisk pace, the less contact they have with others the better they feel, but gossip follows them like a shadow, no matter how fast they go, darkness always catches up with them. They meet Audrey in their secret place, a small area of the garden where it is forbidden to go but they don't care.

"Audrey dear"
Nathan greets her in a princely manner, it's his way of showing her affection even if it's a little bizarre

"Nathan dear"
She replies, amused by his way of doing things

"love come here"
Destiny walks over to her hugging her, the other one does the same, they sit on the bench left there to rust and have some fun not to think about the fact that in a few minutes they will have to go into class.

The bell rings and they go to class, Audrey is a sophomore so she greets her friends, who instead go to third, going in the opposite direction to them.

Classes are held in the most boring way possible, the only time Destiny and Nathan pay attention is when they move on to the practical part of their favorite subject, chemistry.

After school Destiny says goodbye to her friends and then goes home, lately her adoptive parents are not doing well, her father has just lost his job and the stress of finding another one immediately, even if only temporary, is felt. She, for her part, tries not to be a burden, but she has a temper and a few fights, even over stupid things, are always triggered.

"I'm back"
Tells Destiny when she crosses the threshold of the house, but she doesn't receive any answer, she hears her parents talking in the kitchen, they are arguing, she decides to approach cautiously to hear better what they say.

After hearing their words her backpack falls from the only shoulder where it was resting, her parents hear the noise and stop talking and approach the door, but before having a confrontation with them Destiny runs away trying to hold back the tears and anger bursting in knowing that nothing lasts forever.
