What makes a poet?

What makes a poet?
Is it the way they craft their words?
Or the way they process the words they hear?
Or how they wrote their words with love?
Is it the way they look at the world around them?
Or what they experience inside that world
Or could it be how they woo you with their words?

How do you find a poet?
By the way they can silence a crowd?
By how they speak when you are alone with them?
By how they make you feel?
By how they write with love?
Or is it how they can make you entire body tremble simply with how they use their words.

What makes me a poet?
Is it how I craft my words, to show you how I process the world?
Is it that I write with my love?
Is it the words I speak both to crowds of hundreds and to an audience of one?
Is it how I make you feel?
Or could it simply be that I share how I see the world and that I show you how I feel?

We look at Shakespeare, Dickinson, Sappho, Wilde, and a thousand others.
Who we would all call poets, because they all make us tremble with their words.
So that must be it?
Because not all voices can silence crowds
And not all poets write with love.
