"Sadie, who the hell was that?"

I froze in the act of opening my apartment door as a voice I hadn't heard since my graduation four months ago growled right behind me. A voice I had hoped not to hear again until the day we signed our divorce papers. A voice I still heard in my head saying horrible things about me that had crushed my heart and my soul in a million different ways. A voice that shouldn't be here because he didn't know where I was.

Clearly, my luck had run out.

The "who" he was referring to was a resident at the hospital I worked at who'd spent the night at my place after a rough breakup with his boyfriend the day before. Oliver and I had become good friends over the last few months, and he'd come over for a bitchfest about his latest love fiasco, his third in as many months.

I could relate to the fiasco portion of the evening.

So we drank a few too many glasses of wine, I commiserated with him and then, since it was after midnight, he crashed on my couch, leaving bright and early this morning to go get ready for work.

If you saw a gorgeous, rugged man coming out of your wife's apartment around seven in the morning, getting a huge hug good-bye and big smack on the lips from said wife, I could see where it might look a little suspicious. Although I debated just popping back into my apartment as I'd been about to do when his voice stopped me, I turned to face the man who technically was my husband but in reality was anything but. Happily, even if my body was responding sluggishly to this surprise visitor, my brain had shot into warp speed, and I was ready to rumble.

"Oh, him? That's just some guy that knows how to fuck. It's amazing how many of them are out there. You know how it is, right?" I dropped a little, tiny wink at him, as if we were sharing a universal truth.

Gage's face turned to stone and his body locked so tight that I knew my little shot had scored a direct hit. His nostrils flared and he was breathing so hard I wouldn't be surprised if he started spitting fire. Really, this was too easy.

Was it wrong to enjoy myself this much at his expense? The words I'd overheard him snapping at his brother that terrible night replayed in my head, words that were burned on my heart, and I decided a little revenge served cold was completely justified.

I'm barely able to tolerate this girl.

I'll be busy with the company and with women who know how to fuck.

Sadie's just some girl I'm married to for the next two years until I can divorce her.

"You know, Gage, I have to thank you. Finding out we were free to fuck other people, why, all I can say is open relationships are so liberating!" I gave a little fist pump in case he missed my excitement. "And the best part is, if the men get too clingy, I just pull out the married card and off they go. I haven't had so much fun since...well, never!"

I was worried he was going to stroke out he looked so angry. "I will not have my wife fucking other men, Sadie."

"Then it's a good thing your wife is currently not in a position to fuck anyone, isn't it? I'm just the girl you're married to for the next eight or nine months." I lowered my voice and leaned toward him. "Sorry if that was a little insensitive, but you're not exactly Mr. Sensitive yourself, are you?

She's not my wife. Livvy's the only wife I'll ever have.

She thought we connected when I fucked her. It was laughable. She was holding on for dear life and I had my eyes shut, hoping she wouldn't talk so I could pretend she was Livvy.

"That's enough, Sadie. You don't want to piss me off any more than you already have."

My mood changed in a heartbeat and I glared at him, all mockery flown. "Or what, Gage? What could you possibly do to me that could be worse than what I heard you telling your brother less than a week after our wedding? You remember that day, when I found out about all your secrets and lies?"
