"What's that smell?"   I thought as I stared into the pitch blackness. It smelled sweet but also bitter. Which didn't make much sense. Yipping could be heard as my litter mates fought for my mothers warmth. "No I want mother"  I thought as I pushed my way through my litter mates warm bodies. It was no use I was too small and I couldn't get through my litter mates. Suddenly something cold but warm wrapped around me. I heard loud booming voices. "This ones a runt" I heard one of the voices say. I tried so hard to open my small eyes but they were glued shut. "Just put her back with her mother" I heard the other voice say. "Runt? What do they think I am? Some runt?"  I thought as I was carefully set down next to my sleeping litter mates. I was still staring at pitch blackness as I drifted off. The warmth of my mother was my only comfort. I woke up with the same sweet yet bitter smell filling my lungs. My litter mates had already been awake attempting to lift their heads and crawl around."That smell is strong"  I thought as I lifted my head up to be like my litter mates.  I tried to keep it up but seconds after I lifted it my head thumped down on the hard wood floor. I soon heard more thumps as my litter mates heads fell down on the floor.  "Those puppies are getting on my nerves. It's time we get rid of them" I yipped as I heard one of the humans say this. "Not until they can see Charles." I had heard another voice call. "Get rid of? Those don't sound like pleasant words..." I had though as I lifted my small head back up. Again my head made a thump as it hit the ground. "Stupid head" I tried to yip it out loud but it just came out as a bunch of mumbo jumbo. "No use trying to say anything" I thought anger rushing through my vains as I stared into the blackness of my eyelids. "No use in trying anything" I thought in anger. I rolled over and felt the soft fur of my litter mate under me. I stifled a laugh as he pushed me off him and went back to eating. "Can my other litter mates see?" I tried to yip, curiosity taking over my thoughts.  I yipped as I was picked up by my mother. I was set down between her soft paws. I felt a ruff but a soothing thing on my back. What was my mother doing? I wasn't sure what to think so I laid there. The warmth of the thing on my back made me tired. I laid my head down on my soft paws. I tried to open my eyes instead of closing them. Instead I was left there with my thoughts for a few moments as my mother cared for my litter mates. A million thoughts went running through my head before my mother greeted me with her soft but ruff fur maybe? I wouldn't find out until my eyes could open. Which would probably be awhile. A few moments later I drifted off. I woke up with my eyes wide open. But I saw a large black and orange-like dog running towards me. I jolted awake yipping and barking. My mother put her paws around me and began to comfort me. "Shh quiet down your litter mates are asleep" My mom barked as she laid her head down next to me.
