Chapter 2: Part IV

I washed up a little bit and went into the kitchen to help them make dinner. While we were cooking they all asked questions like "How did you get your abilities" and just stuff like that. Of course I told them. The women in this dang house are like the only people I can trust. They always have my back. Even Reyna.
At the dinner table I was still thinking about the necklace. Meanwhile, the others were just trying to figure out my past.
"Zara, how old were you when you left your family and how old are you now ?" Jett asked.
"I was 17 when I got kicked out and I'm still 17. " I answered.
It was a little quiet until Yoru asked, "What's that mark on your hand and why does it glow?"
"It's a clock I think and I don't know why it glows, it just appeared one day."
We were wrapping up dinner and somebody turned on the news. Kingdom stole radianite near my old home. It made me worried, I know how they take radianite. They take it with a spike, it's similar to a bomb and blows up while taking the radianite. I looked at the rest of the news and realized how close it really was. 119 innocent citizens dead.
My mom and brother could be 2 of those people. I knew I had to find out. I went to my room and helping clean up and packed a bag for only the night. I was walking out the door until I saw Chamber and Reyna talking to each other.
"Another young mind to corrupt" Chamber laughed.
"Yes.." Reyna agreed.
I didn't pay attention to what they were talking about but I didn't care in the moment. I didn't even question why they were talking in the rain . I had to go find my family. They saw me leave and tried to stop me. They might have called a few people for help but I'm not sure. I got into a cab late at night and went back to my old city. Everything was broken apart. It didn't look as bad as it did now. It was terrible. A tear fell from my eye and I went running to my home. I opened the door because it was unlocked, which is quite strange because my mother always left the door locked. I looked everywhere for them. My mom never left the house with my brother. I finally went to the kitchen. I started to have flashbacks of when they threw me a small birthday. I saw my little brothers favorite toy on the ground, as well as my mothers jade bracelet she has gotten on her wedding day as a gift. They would never leave these things behind.
I fell on my knees and a few tears turned into a river. I wish I had never left the city. My only family died and I didn't get to say goodbye. I was holding their things in hands and hugged them as tight as I could. They bodies were probably taken by kingdom for testing. I didn't know what to do with myself. I prayed a small prayer and left. I made sure to lock the door because that's how Ma would've done it.
I decided I wanted to walk back to the building. It was too risky to take a cab but even riskier to walk. At that point I didn't even care. The people I loved the most were gone. The necklace was the only thing left from my father and it was gone. I took the last two things that had meant a lot to me. I was sure I wouldn't mess it up this time. The night air was cold, I was wet from the rain and shivering. I took off my sweater and put it in my purse.
In the morning I reached the campus. Everybody came out and looked at me telling me how worried they were and how they thought I ran away. I didn't think anything of it. I just went to my room and threw myself on the bed. I didn't care that I was wet. I didn't care about anything at all.
Of course someone just had to knock when I wanted to be alone. I let them in but before that I wiped my tears. "Yes?" I asked.
"Can I come in?" Reyna asked. I agreed and she came in.
"How are you doing, mi amor?"
"I'm okay."
"Just okay?"
"Yeah."
"Can you tell me about your new abilities? Can we test them out to get your mind off of whatever you're thinking about?"
"Sure."
We left my room and went where everybody was waiting. First, I used my mind transfer, second. reading her mind, and third was freezing time for ten minutes. For my uptime ability I decided to try it out on Jett, she was okay with it.
       Reyna was amazed and she thought it was cool. It made me smile a bit and she had even asked to work out later.
        Brimstone and Viper called me into their office and told me that before I could go into a real mission I would have to take on a years worth of training. I told them I was ready. This is where it starts.
