The ground gets mushy as I continue to protect the passengers, assuring that none of them die. Doing this without using a breathing technique is easier than I thought it would be, meaning that the flesh isn't tough. It's easy to slice through and I have no issue doing so. I can't help but worry about Nezuko and Tanjiro, as well as the others. I have no way of knowing if they are okay and that's distracting me.
What is the hashira doing? Why isn't he fighting yet?
As if I had called him, he slides open the door and steps into the room I'm in.
" To imagine that all of this happened while I was asleep..." he trails off.
Slicing another flesh tentacle, I glare at him.
" Yeah, this whole train is a demon and I can't use a breathing technique to help stop it from regenerating," I snap.
" Some hashira I am," he shouts, smiling.
Smoke billows in the small room. It starts to get hot and flames twirl around Rengoku's body.
" If only I could..."
He lunges down, that same smile on his face, wind pushing me. I step out of the way as Rengoku raises a hand and points his sword behind him.
" Crawl under a rock!" he shouts, leaping in the air, still somehow keeping low and ready.
Thrusting his sword forwards, a gust of wind erupts almost strong enough to knock me over. Flames burst out from his blade as he shoots by and enters the cabins ahead. Each flame creates a slash into the flesh, blood soaking the people. I stare as the flesh explodes, not being able to regrow. I stop to take a breath when Rengoku suddenly appears beside me.
" Aku!" he startles me.
How is he so fast?
I tilt my head to the side and he shouts again.
" I'll protect the four cars in the rear, you protect the next two and the other three will protect the remaining ones. I told them on the way here," he informs me.
" Alright," I say, raising my sword.
" I'm counting on you Aku. If one single person dies today, you're going to die as well."
Just as quickly as he appeared, he disappears, bursting through the doors. Two cars on my own? Am I able to do that? Three people will protect the others, that means one of us is still asleep or searching for a way to kill the demon. There are five demon slayers on this train, I think we can keep everyone safe.
I don't really feel like dying yet, so I'll try my best. While I was wasting time, the tentacles begin to regrow and reach for passengers. I rush over just as one wraps itself around a women's head. Slicing into it, blood sprays my already soaked face. I continue to cut the flesh, activating the first form now and then, however I don't have as much stamina as I'd like to. I won't be able to keep this up for long. I hate the feel of this flesh under my feet.
It's about time for my blades to start fading away, which is going to be a problem. I know that when I look like how I really look, my hands have claws. Letting go of the focus I have on keeping that stuff away for a second allows those claws to grow. I unwrap my tail from around my waist and let my jaw shift into the mouth. I know that my tongue has needles so I could also use that to attack.
Minutes go by and I begin to lose my breath, chest heaving. I must look like a mess by now, completely covered in demon blood. A sudden explosion knocks my off of my feet and the demon scent wavers. The flesh begins to melt and another explosion rocks the train. Did they do it? Did they cut off it's head?
I'm not hurt in any way, no cuts and no bleeding, but I'm completely out of breath. The train starts to jump and move in ways it shouldn't be able to. It tosses me around the cabin and my back hits what used to be the roof. I cough as the train stops rolling and I get up off of the floor. Out of every smell, I can easily pick up the sweet smell of human blood. Breaking the window and jumping outside, I see Inosuke cradeling Tanjiro. I rush over, turning myself back into a human form.
" What happened?" I ask frantically.
" He got stabbed in the gut," Inosuke responds.
I kneel next to Tanjiro.
" Aku, did you keep your cars safe? Did anyone...die?" Tanjiro asks weakly.
" No," I say, " no one is going to die today. Not even you."
He smiles and I press my hands onto his wound, focusing. I need to stop the bloodflow before he bleeds out.
A hand places itself on my shoulder and Rengoku leans over my head.
" I see you've mastered total concentration constant!" he shouts, " very impressive!"
He's still smiling. I glare upwards at him, uncomfortable of his closeness to the top of my head.
" That is the first step of becoming a hashira!" Rengoku states, backing off.
I feel the bloodflow stop at Tanjiro's wound and I lift my hands. I stare in satisfaction as no more blood pours out.
Rengoku begins to explain the injuries of the train as I stand up as well. A stench pierces the air, one a little farther away. It's definetly a demon scent, but this one is so overpowering that I gag. The scent chokes me as it gets close.
" What's wrong Aku?" Rengoku asks.
" There's a-another d-demon," I struggled to get those words out.
My breaths come in short fast waves. My chest is sore.
" So he really did come along," a male voice says, chuckling.
