How easily you held my hand

of intimacy and kindness

of loving and companionship

thinking these things folly

but every day you ground me

to reality and to see

I could not survive this long

without remembering

to plant my feet into

solid, claggy dirt

once more


Prompt 11: Can't believe I've made it over a third of the way. The temptation to go back and edit the absolute mess I've published is overwhelming but, alas, on we go. This time, we were encouraged to write a love poem. The title is taken from a beautiful June Jordan piece called A Poem for Haruko. My partner gave me June Jordan's poetry as a gift once so it fit right in.
