THE MAN THAT GRANTED THE GROUP REFUGE IS A DOCTOR. Doctor Edwin Jenner is how he introduced himself to the group. Faye doesn't completely trust him, she finds him a little strange. He claims that he is the only one left in the building, yet refuses to shed any light on how that happened. She doesn't expect him to just tell them everything—but it would be nice to have some sort of indication as to where the entire public health agency has gone. The only other 'person' inside is his advanced voice-controlled computer, he calls her VI —Faye calls her creepy.

Faye watches Jenner intensely. Her eyes trailing along the needle between his fingers,
narrowing as it pierces T-Dog's skin. She isn't scared of needles, she has a pretty high pain tolerance—her fear is lifting up her sleeve. Her arms were her father's favourite place to punish her, his favourite place to put out his cigarettes. Growing up, Carol always took extra measures to cover up her husbands abuse. She would force Faye to wear thick sweaters even on the hottest of days, and her torturous habit spread to Faye like wildfire. She's ashamed to show her scars—Amy Harrison once said that all scars are badass...Faye disagrees. Scars are just an invitation for people to feel sorry for you. And there's nothing Faye hates more than people feeling sorry for her.

Jenner dismisses T-Dog from the table, his eyes immediately landing on Faye who's unfortunately next in line. "Next."

Faye feels her skin bubble with anxiety, and her kneecaps turn to jelly. It could be the fact that she hasn't eaten in days, but her stomach suddenly feels like it's being flipped inside out—forcing her to swallow the bile creeping up her oesophagus. Despite her struggle to steady her panicked breathing, Faye pushes herself up onto her feet. Her vision blurs, only clearing when she finally reaches the chair in front of Jenner.

The air feels thick around her as a heavy silence sits between them both, her eyes follow his movements as the man prepares the needle. Her fingers tremble as she reluctantly rolls her left sleeve up, revealing the various scars scattered up her arm.

Jenner pauses, his eyes quickly scanning over each scar. Faye keeps her eyes low, not wanting to see the looks of horror on the group face's —she can feel their eyes burning into her skin. After examining every single one of her scars, Jenner slips the needle into her arm causing Faye to flinch at the sudden action.

Jenner hums to himself, which doesn't help settle Faye's nerves. Her jaw tightens out of discomfort—she can feel every single drop of blood leaving her body. Just as she feels like she could pass out, Jenner removes the needle from her arm.

He taps her arm lightly, before picking up his pen and clipboard. "Name?"

Faye pulls her sleeve down almost immediately, returning her arm back down to her side. "Faye."

"Nice to meet you, Faye," Jenner sends her a small nod, quickly writing her name down. "You're free to join the others, now."

Faye doesn't stick around for much longer. She jumps up faster than she should've after getting blood taken, she stumbles back over to the row of chairs, sinking down into the seat next to Sophia. She hugs herself, cowering under the eyes of everyone who all watch her in pity—great.
