A Second Chance

   It was happening again.

  ''Master!''

   He knew what was coming.

   ''Caleb, where are the reinforcements?''

There was that exasperated affection in her voice. His Master's voice. The voice he would only ever hear in his dreams.

    His nightmares.

    ''Trust me.''

Trust. He and his master had trusted each other. More than anything.

     They'd also trusted the clones.

     ''-Five? We're-''

He wanted it to stop. Stop before it happened. But he couldn't.

     ''-They're different.''

      ''Sir, yes, sir.''

Loyalty. He'd been loyal to the way of life in the order. Loyal to his master. Loyal to his clones.

And they had been to him. Until suddenly, they weren't.

''Watching your team in action was the fun.''

He'd been so happy. When had it all changed so quickly?

''Care to introduce your new friends, Caleb?''

But no. He knew the answer to that question. Just as surely as he knew where this was going.

''The Clone War may soon be over.''

Yes, it would be. Tech had no idea how right he would be.

Just not right in the good way.

''I suggest we focus on the task at hand.''

He wondered what happened to Tech.

''Only if I can go with him.''

The Force worked in strange ways. If he hadn't been so fun loving, so ready to get away from some of the strict rules surrounding the other clones, he would never have survived.

He sometimes wondered if that was a good thing.

The crackling sound of static, their footsteps crunching on the snow, the hiss of smoking blasters.

   No.

Laughter, oblivious joy as he ran.

 No, no, no.

A cold wave washing over him

  ''Master...''

He turned around.

    ''Master!!''

Sprinting towards her as the clones, their men, their squad turned on her.

   ''You must run!''

  No!

But he was. He was running. Running from the screams of his master echoing in his ears.

    ''Run, Caleb!''

Screams. Blood. The burning smell of flesh. His master's broken voice telling him to run.
