"Severus!" yelled a voice, accompanied by a furious banging on the front door. "Severus, open up this door right now, you rotten shit! Severus! Open the fuck up!"

Severus did as Remus requested, scrubbing furiously at his eyes, unlatching the door as quickly as he could because he was already disliked by the other people in his apartment, and Remus would only make it worse if he stayed outside and continued his tremendously loud screeching.

"What the actual fuck, Remus," Severus muttered under his breath as the door swung open. If there hadn't been hinges in place to prevent such a thing, the door would certainly have smashed and splintered against the wall as Remus stormed in, slamming the door after him.

His eyes were bloodshot and wild and his hands were shaking, but his exhale of relief was huge as he saw Severus. "Sev," he whispered, and then quite suddenly, he was holding Severus's face in his hands, pressing their foreheads together.

"God, Severus," he whispered, and then, just like Severus had been dreaming of for so, so long, he pressed their lips together, soft and sweet and painfully careful, and unless Remus kissed everyone like this, Severus could feel something akin to actual care in his touch.

The kiss was turning heated now, and Remus had Severus pinned up against a wall, uncaring as Severus whimpered into his mouth, who shuddered at the sudden heat, bucking his hips almost gently against Severus's.

However, as much as Severus tried - and he did try - pulling at his own shirt and Remus's, nibbling at his neck, the other man simply wouldn't go any farther, just holding Severus close and kissing him, over and over, like he couldn't believe he was really there, in his arms again.

"You left," Remus accused, pulling away so suddenly that Severus was still stunned for a minute, only refocusing after what seemed like ages, watching as Remus kept trying and failing to glare at him, and Severus realized that oh, he wasn't trembling out of anger but out of fear.

Oh.

"You left me and it hurt, so, so much, Sev," he whispered, still clutching at Severus, who was trembling too, putty to Remus's touch. "You left," and now he was sobbing, and Severus hauled him to the couch, failing to stay strong. The two men crumpled into each other, holding each other tight, and Severus felt... complete.

For the first time in over four years, he could hold Remus close to him again and press their lips together and love him, because Severus could feel it now, a steady thrumming in the center of his heart.

"I love you," he whispered into Remus's ear, holding him fiercely close to him, "and I'm never, ever, letting go of you, never again."

Remus let out another sob, eyes squeezing out tear after tear, his mouth blindly seeking Severus, who was so much more than happy to oblige, pressing soft kisses to Remus's eyes, nose, cheeks, shoulders, forehead, lips.

"Never again," he promised, curling into Remus's warm chest, relishing the feeling of having his body close to his lover's again.

Never again.
