This could not be happening!

Why here? Why now? What was she doing here? And why in the hell did she have to look so damn good?

Her eyes stayed locked with mine as I got to the bottom of the staircase.

I noticed she started to make her way over and I felt my breath hitch.

Before she could make it, Xander came and took my hand. Thank god.

He kissed my knuckles and smiled at me. "You look absolutely stunning my dear," he said.

I smiled warmly at him and kissed his cheek. I looked back over to where she was standing but she was no longer looking at me. She was glaring at Xander and if looks could kill, Xander would be 6 foot under.

I couldn't help but roll my eyes at her stupidity. She had no reason to be angry. She broke me and he healed my broken heart.

Xander led me to the foyer and grabbed a glass of champagne and a fork and clinked them together to get everyone's attention.

When all eyes we're on him, Xander stepped forward and put on a large welcoming smile. "Welcome ladies and gentlemen to this year's 35 annual charity ball. I hope you all have a great time. Dinner will be served in 5 minutes so please make your way to your seats," he said.

Xander took my hand and lead me into the dining room and pulled out a chair for me at the end of the table.

I smiled gratefully at him before sitting down. Xander sat beside me and gently rested his hand on my thigh.

I looked down at the table hoping that she wouldn't sit near me. Apparently fate had a sense of humor because I heard the chair across form me move and I looked up meeting again her grey eyes.

God I'm so in love with her eyes.

Shut up idiot your engaged!

I took a deep breath to settle my nerves as the maids and butlers brought out the soup for everyone.

Once everyone was served, people chatted among themselves and ate.

I quietly ate my dinner as Xander talked to everyone around him.

I tensed when I heard him ask her a question. "So Camille, how's business going," he asked.

She looked up and glanced at me before looking over at him. "It's going well I suppose," she said, her rich accent making me feel like jelly inside.

Xander nodded in understanding. "That's good. I heard your father retired last year. How are you managing," he asked.

I knew that tone of voice. He was mocking her, making my blood boil slightly.

I glanced up at Camille to see her jaw lock and hear her teeth grind together, her stormy eyes blazing. "I'm managing just fine. Thank you for your concern," she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

I looked up at Xander to see him smirking. He opened his mouth to say something but I gently squeezed his hand.

He looked at me and saw my pleading eyes and nodded once and let it go for now. "Your welcome. Let me know if you need any help," his voice full of fake concern.

Camille rolled her eyes and got back to eating her dinner. I couldn't help but notice her every move and I hated it.

How her hand tensed slightly when someone mentioned something that made her angry, how her eyebrows would quirk up when she found something amusing and how cold and distant her eyes looked.

I knew her better than anyone. I know how much she hated these balls. She would rather be at home watching Netflix instead of being in this stuffy place. She hated it just as much as me, if not more.
