CHAPTER X:
happy holidays( December 1978 )
"I JUST KISSED OLYMPIA AYER," SIRIUS BREATHED OUT IN SHOCK. James laughed and clapped his hand on his friend's back while Peter and Remus stayed silent. Black's cheeks had been flushed with adrenaline and his lips had been more pink than usual with the remains of Olympia's lip balm on them. "Twice.""Yes you did," Remus deadpanned without looking up from the book in his hands.
"You don't even like her," Peter spoke up, murderous thoughts swimming in his eyes. "She's just your bet."
Sirius glanced his challenging eyes at the sulking boy, "I don't recall ever saying I didn't like her," he said. "If it wasn't obvious from when I went in for another kiss," Peter clenched his jaw, "I do in fact like her. The bet is just a little thing I'll do on the side." This made Peter want to crush his windpipe to keep him from speaking but no matter how upset he was, he only managed to leave the compartment and go for a walk.
He clenched his hands into fists at the thought of Sirius and Olympia being together, and then he thought about them together alone. All the perverse things Sirius might try on her, how Peter would be better at everything than his supposed friend.
Peter was an overthinker, there was no doubt about this, but when he walked past compartments, he heard a conversation that halted every dramatic thought he could ever think.
"Well, did you like it at least?"
"I don't know, maybe? I'm not sure."
"How could you not be sure? Sirius Black just kissed you!"
"Why is it so important?"
"The school year is almost over which means if he were to ask you to be his girlfriend..."
"It could continue on after we graduate."
That was all Peter needed to hear. Olympia liked Sirius more than she did Peter. No one could deny that. If Olympia had to choose between Sirius and Peter, Sirius would get chosen in a heartbeat. No denying that either. So if Sirius were out of the picture, who would be chosen instead of Peter? No one. But that would only happen if Peter were to divulge the heartbreaking actions that navigated his thoughts. How would dear Olympia react? Finding out the boy she had begun to have feelings for was, well, being devoured by maggots and decomposers? Well, that was simple.
She wouldn't.
THE RIDE TO KINGS CROSS HAD ENDED AFTER MULTIPLE HOURS OF IRRITATING TWITCHING AND MUMBLES BELONGING TO THE PETTIGREW HEIR. Soon after he had abruptly stormed out of his shared compartment, he had returned to it a twitching mess, but keeping his eyes on Sirius Black. Now, they were all getting off of the express to let their sights be disappointed with the sights of such dullness.
Remus bid his goodbye first, then James who said he would meet Sirius outside of the station, and finally Sirius.
He clapped Peter on the back while weakly embracing him while it took everything in Pettigrew to not bite the flesh on his neck.
"Hey, for what it's worth, I am sorry about the Olly thing," he said as he let go of Peter. The name irritated Peter to hear it slip past his lips but he stayed silent. "I just think I've got a better chance with her," Sirius winced slightly with his words to soften the blow while Peter's eye twitched. "No hard feelings?"
Peter nodded proceeding with his act of the passive friend, "no hard feelings." There were most definitely hard feelings.
"Happy holidays, Pete."
The dark-haired boy turned on his heel to walk to the exit of the train station, but Peter followed. The intrusive thoughts he had gained over the month of December had long had their victory of desire over morality and Sirius Black was soon to be proof of just that.
Right after the two boys turned the corner, the sound of a fight would soon begin. Blows would make contact with bodies. Cries of agony would meet the ears of only one person. The heart-stopping sound of a chest caving in would begin from one. A crushing echo of a jugular being clawed at would satisfy the other. And the pathetic breaths of the attacked would eventually cease to exist.
Peter stood up from the masterpiece he had created and only one thing had concerned him at the moment. Not the fact that there had been two new holes in Sirius Black's body. Not the fact that Sirius Black was dead. But the fact that he didn't feel any remorse. In fact, he felt at ease while looking at the staining crimson on his hands and under his nails.
His face contorted into one of disgust and loathing while he stared at Sirius Black one last time before leaving.
"Happy holidays, Sirius."
NOTE. for those who said peter was not going to like the kiss in the last chapter, no he in fact did not 🤭
