Xalani laid awake in her bed, laying on her side with her attention on her TV that was mounted on the wall, currently playing The Lorax.

Silent tears fell from her eyes, her face formed up into her natural pout expression. She hated the days she stayed awake late at night, reminiscing on the past. The good, and the bad.

She missed her parents a lot. They were all that she ever thought about; what life would be like if they were still here, did they ever hear her prayers, would she ever be able to move on? Question after question, after questions.

She wished she could be like Kanai when it came to them. Her older sister forced herself to forget about them, she didn't speak or even think about them. Kanai hated being sad, so she stayed away from what saddened her the most-their parents.

It was as if they'd never existed. Whenever her friends asked about her home life, she'd tell them that her parents were deployed with the U.S. Navy. She made it very believable, she had a whole lie memorized for anyone that asked.

She didn't ever want anyone to know that her parents were Amour and Quavyius Banks. She'd even gotten her and Xalani's last name changed just so nobody could make the connection.

Everyone knew about Amour and Quayvius, the real life version of Bonnie and Clyde. Except, they didn't rob banks or take the police on high-speed chases. They were homicidal, and heavily involved in human trafficking.

While Amour was a sociopath, a woman capable of using her naturally sweet aura to manipulate people for her own gain, impulsive and held the trait of feeling no remorse; Quayvius was the calm to her storm.

Though he definitely indulged in her heavily chaotic behavior, he was normal besides that. He wasn't maniacal like Amour, he was just in love. In love with her, their two daughters, and in love with the large sums of money they gained in their line of work.

Everybody saw the news the day they died, and many wondered what happened to all of their money, the properties and business endeavors. No one had ever known that they'd had children, except for their killers, of course.

Luckily, Kanai was able to keep their real life out of sight of the world. She didn't want anyone to find out about who her and Xalani were and potentially put their life in danger. She'd probably tricked herself into actually forgetting what took place when they were children.

Unfortunately, Xalani couldn't do the same. She didn't know how to forget, or how to get over the fact that she'd never be with her parents again.

She missed her mom the most. Amour was her best friend, the person she was closest to out of everyone, including Kanai. Granted her mother and her bonded over things that they shouldn't have, things Xalani shouldn't have been exposed to as a child.
