A Certain Memory

I woke up from the sunlight shining directly at my eyes. The three windows that were actually in the guest room did not have curtains, so I sat there for a second, blinded.

Once I could finally see again, I realized that Evie had slept with me last night. She had curled up beside me when she was ready to sleep, and she rested in my arms.

I felt so at peace in those moments. All I could think about was how I never wanted it to end. But, of course, all things had to end. Evie woke up when she felt me moving beside her, which really disappointed me, to say the least.

When she saw that my arm was wrapped around her waist, however, she smiled. Right then, I shoved away all disappointment, and savored that moment instead.

"Did you sleep well last night?" She chuckled, probably seeing that there were no bags under my eyes as much as there were before.

"Yes, very well. You?" I raised an eyebrow. She had no bags either, but she still looked sleepy.

She tried sitting up, but I held her in my arms.

"Enz, I need to make breakfast. Plus, my dad would kill us if he'd known we slept together."

I laughed.

"You know what I mean." She realized what she had said, and blushed a bright pink.

"I know, but it's still funny."

She hit me with one of the pillows, and I ran after her as she rushed downstairs.

"Hey! You children calm it down! People are still trying to sleep!" Mr.Barrett warned.

"Sorry, Dad." Evie said as I said, "Sorry, Sir."

We both laughed again.

"So, what do you two gentlemen want on this fine Friday morning?"

"I don't care, whatever you guys would like." I replied, seating myself at one of the bar chairs.

"That does not help!" Evie whined.

I grinned at her childishness. She was so cute when she wanted to be. Hell, to me, she was gorgeous every day.

"I'd like bacon and eggs. And could you fix some biscuits, please, Ev?" Her dad begged. He must have been really hungry.

"I'll eat whatever you fix." I told her once more, getting a breathtaking smile back.

"Alright. Bacon, Eggs, and Biscuits it is." She concluded as she began to take out ingredients.

A while later, all of us were seated at the family table. Considering I had never eaten breakfast with either of them before, I was surprised to actually not feel overwhelmingly awkward.

Evie was the best at starting conversations, I soon realized. Sure, everyone was awkward occasionally, because nobody's perfect. But, Evie seemed to make conversation with the snap of her fingers.

"So, are you excited for school, Enzo? " She asked me, taking a bite out of her scrambled eggs.

"Definitely. This year, the Basketball Team is supposed to be wild." I took another piece of bacon from the full plate ahead of me. "There's supposed to be a beginning-of-the-year welcome party or something. They never did that before this year, so I don't really know the reason"

I seemed to be pretty talkative this morning, and I had no clue why. I guess Ev just brought out the teen girl in me instead of the teen boy. But then, thinking that, I realized I sounded gay. So, I easily pushed the thought away.
