Five Months Later
"Babe, you shouldn't be carrying that," Czar said, lifting the box from my hands.
"I'm pregnant, not handicapped," I replied.
"I know, but you don't need to lift these things. How about you focus on unpacking?" He kissed my forehead and headed back to the moving van.
We finally found a house we both loved. It was only ten minutes from Czar's old place and twenty minutes from his job. A four-bedroom home with an open floor plan and a massive backyard. I had space for my designs; he had space for whatever secret business needed threatening. I made him swear there wouldn't be a single drop of blood in this house.
I wandered into the living room and started unpacking. Ever since my bump began to show, Czar had been overly cautious, no heavy lifting, barely even light lifting.
"Why do you have so many boxes!" Anderi complained as he walked in, balancing two.
"Stop whining," I said, reaching to take one from him.
"No way, I am not getting in trouble with your husband," he turned away quickly, shielding the boxes.
I rolled my eyes and returned to unboxing. "He's been so overprotective lately."
"You are carrying his son, after all," Anderi said with a smirk.
"I can't believe he was right. I was so sure we were having a girl."
"Maybe next time," Czar said, entering the room with more boxes.
Lada followed him, grinning, carrying what I was certain was another bag of baby clothes. Since learning the gender, she'd been on a shopping spree.
"Really, Lada, I promise we don't need more clothes," I said.
"You can never have enough," she insisted, setting the bag down by the fireplace. "This house is lovely."
"I knew it was perfect the moment I saw it," I smiled.
"The movers are bringing in the furniture now. I gave them your layout, but they need you both out of the way," Czar said.
Lada and I retreated to the kitchen, which was already furnished. We sat at the dining table, catching up.
"So," Lada asked, "have you picked a name yet?"
"Actually, we have. Oliver Andrew Kuzmitch."
Tears welled in her eyes. "I love it. I can't tell you how happy I am that Czar found you. I worried he'd never find real love, but he has, with the perfect person."
Cue the waterworks. "Sorry," I sobbed. "It's the hormones."
She pulled me into a hug, and we cried in each other's arms.
Czar walked in with Anderi. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing," I sniffled. "Just hormones."
Czar and Anderi exchanged a glance but said nothing.
"We have to go to your check-up," Czar reminded me.
I nodded, and he helped me up. I hugged Lada and Anderi goodbye, thanking them for helping us settle in. Czar insisted on bringing the car around front before I even stepped outside.
"I'm just pregnant, not made of glass," I teased as he helped me into the car.
He rushed to the driver's side. "I know, but your belly's so huge."
I narrowed my eyes. "Gee, thanks."
"I mean...you're just big for five months."
He wisely said nothing more.

"Excited?" Dr. White asked.
She was a gem, bright smile, warm soul. Every visit made easier just by her presence.
"Honestly? I'm just ready for this to be over," I sighed.
Pregnancy was not what I'd imagined. Three months of nausea, swollen feet, back pain, hair shedding... It was brutal. I told Czar it'd be a long while before we tried again.
But it would all be worth it.
"We're halfway there, love," Dr. White said, spreading the cool gel across my belly.
As usual, it made me feel like I had to pee instantly. But then she paused. Her brows furrowed. She hovered the wand over one spot repeatedly.
I glanced at Czar, who looked just as tense.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Well... it looks like you're having twins."
"What?" Czar said.
My jaw dropped. "How?! How did we not know this earlier?"
"Baby B has been hiding. It's called monoamniotic twins—they share a sac. Baby B was behind Baby A. This isn't uncommon. We usually find out around 20 weeks."
"Is Baby B a boy too?" I asked.
"Yes. Both boys. Identical."
I turned to look at Czar, who sat frozen, eyes wide. I rubbed his arm gently.
He blinked, then looked at me. "Two boys for the price of one."
I slapped his arm. He laughed and kissed my forehead.
"We got this, baby."
