Paradox stood on a hill overlooking the funeral of Ben Tennyson. He grabbed a handkerchief and wiped away a tear.
Azmuth: A tear, old friend? I didn't think you were capable.
Paradox stared back to see Azmuth sitting on a tree branch.
Paradox: Stealing my tricks, Azmuth? I thought I was the one who showed up unannounced.
Azmuth: I believe you're finally off-guard, Paradox.
Paradox: Perhaps I am. Grief can do many things to a man. It is of no importance however. Did you make adjustments to the Omnitrix?
Azmuth: I did. I still disagree with letting it work for the Tennyson child, however.
Paradox: It needed to be done I'm afraid. There will be a time where he must step up.
Azmuth: He is but a boy.
Paradox: Give him time. He will be a hero one day. And I'm afraid that the universe's fate will fall upon his choice.

PRESENT DAY
The JSA and Barbara began discussing Sylvester's recent suspicious behavior.
Courtney: Sylvester told you about the hourglass's limiter, but he didn't warn you about what happened to your father when he removed it.
Beth: Mr. Pemberton also told me to protect my parents.
Courtney: But what he was really getting you to do was push them away.
Beth: After all the help they've given me, that was a mistake.
Yolanda: Sylvester said not to let up on Cindy, and I never gave her a chance.
Nate: He was the one who told me to unlock Alien X, knowing it would give Eon access.
Barbara: Why would Sylvester purposefully give you all bad advice?
Beth: To keep us distracted.
Yolanda: To break us apart.
Rick: To weaken us.
Nate: To let our guard down.
Courtney: To take our confidence away. He took the Staff from me. He told me I wasn't worthy of it.
Barbara: Well, he's dead wrong.
Courtney: Then why couldn't I bring it back to me, Mom?
Yolanda: Maybe Sylvester wanted the Staff for himself this whole time.
Rick: Then why not just take it from Court in the first place? Why wait?
Barbara: We have to find Pat.

Barbara and Courtney got off their phones.
Courtney: Mike's not answering.
Barbara: Pat's phone's going straight to voicemail.
