Protection:- Protection is the process of defending a piece by another piece or the piece itself. In this example, the Rook will move two steps to defend itself from the two Bishops.

Combat:- Combat is the process in which a capturing and defending works both. Combat = Capturing + Defending. In this example, the Pawn will moves first to defend itself from the Rook and then the the Bishop will kill the Rook.

We have to do check mate. It is a process in which the enemy King is in check and cannot escape. In this example, the Queen will kill the Pawn in front of it. If the enemy King kills the Queen, then the Bishop will not leave the opportunity of killing the King!
