I was sitting in my house and I was working on some lyrics in my notebook. It had been 2 months since Andy had been away and things were getting a little easier. He would creep into my mind every so often and I would get inspiration for a song but I had been on a few dates in the past few weeks, Janie set them all up. As I was humming a melody in my head and writing down lyrics my cellphone rang and it was Janie.
"Hey, if you are setting me up again I'm not interested. I need a break." I said and she laughed.
"Not setting you up, don't worry." She said and I smiled.
"Good, what's up?" I asked and she sighed.
"Some guy was in the bar asking about you last night?" Janie asked and I perked up and she must have sensed it.
"It wasn't Andy. He said he used to work with Andy though and he was wondering if you had heard from him recently." Janie said and I relaxed back on the couch.
"What did you tell him?" I asked and she sighed.
"Told him you hadn't and he said figured and left." Janie said and I sighed.
"Yeah well nice to know he isn't just ignoring me." I mumbled.
"What?! Have you contacted him?!" Janie asked.
"After he left. I text him a couple times. Nothing serious. I just wanted to talk but as far as I know he never even read the messages." I said and Janie sighed.
"You okay being without him now that you have been on some dates?" Janie asked and I sighed.
"Getting there. I took his pictures down." I said.
"Step one." Janie said and I nodded.
"Yeah, I guess." I said and she sighed.
"It will get easier. I know you were in deep with him and this just makes it harder. Just have to keep remembering he was married and he is with his family now." Janie said and I sighed.
"Yep, he is a family man now." I said. I looked down at my notebook.
"Hey, I was in the middle of writing, can I call you later?" I asked.
"Yeah of course, go write." Janie said and we hung up. I headed over to the piano and sighed fiddling with keys as I hummed the melody in my head and started writing down on sheet music. Once I had the music down I copied the lyrics and knew I wanted Janie to hear this song so I set my phone up to record.
"Hey this is what I was working on when you called. I know you know who it's about but he has been on my brain so leave me alone. The dates are working just not fully taking him away. But here listen." I said as the inro to Janie in the video and I started playing and singing.
Why did you have to forsake me
Couldn't you tell me goodbye
I've been waking up lately with tears in my eyesLove ain't worth making when it makes you the fool
A chance ain't worth taking
My heart is breaking
When she's holding youYou don't know how happy you made me
Couldn't you give it one more try
I know her arms are waiting to hold you tonightLove ain't worth making when it makes you the fool
A chance ain't worth taking
My heart is breaking
When she's holding youSo go on and pack up what's left
Of all that we shared
You're leaving me lonely tonightLove ain't worth making when it makes you the fool
A chance ain't worth taking
My heart is breaking
When she's holding youA chance ain't worth taking
My heart is breaking
When she's holding you"Okay so let me know what you think. I may try it out at the club tomorrow night." I said and ended the video and grabbed my phone. I sent the video off and went into the kitchen to make me some lunch putting my phone in my pocket.
*****ANDY POV*****
I'm sitting in my office on my lunch break eating and looking at the picture of me and Alaina that I took from her house when I left. I framed it and put it on my desk. Laurie knew, there was no hiding I was in love with Alaina and that wasn't going away anytime soon. Laurie had her suspicions before we left Ohio that I was having an affair. Once we got to Virginia I came clean to her one night she wanted to be intimate that I couldn't because I had feelings for someone else. We were trying counseling but I told her I didn't think it would work. I didn't love her anymore but we were trying to make it work until Jacob graduated and would be out of the house. I was eating when my cellphone went off and I pulled out to see a video message from Alaina. This was new and I was concerned as to why so I opened the video and listen to her voice I so desperately missed hearing.
"Hey this is what I was working on when you called. I know you know who it's about but he has been on my brain so leave me alone. The dates are working just not fully taking him away. But here listen."
I knew by the way she was talking she didn't mean to send this to me and I should have turned it off but I couldn't. She was dating...why did that make a knot in my stomach? She was about to sing, my songbird. I heard her singing and I just got sadder and sadder, this song was clearly about me, I knew she said it was but this was very obvious. I knew she was hurting and I knew I needed to talk to her. After the song was over she spoke again.
"Okay so let me know what you think. I may try it out at the club tomorrow night."
When the video was over, I sighed. I closed down the text and pulled up her contact info. I knew this may be crossing some lines but I needed to do this.
*****NORMAL POV*****
I was standing in the kitchen putting a pot of water on the stove to boil some water for pasta and my phone starting ringing with a facetime call in my pocket. I pulled it out thinking it was Janie and just answered propping it up on a stand by the stove.
"Hey, so what did you think?" I asked turning on the burner.
"I thought it was beautiful songbird." I head the voice say and I closed my eyes.
