The last few moments of Beck Newman's life have been playing in a constant loop in Max Kerner's mind for the past three years. It's gotten so bad that she can't even go near a cockpit anymore, let alone pilot a fighter jet without thinking of the death of her beloved RIO, Vegas. That's what's kept her benched at Top Gun and out of active duty, which she's sure is disappointing her father, Ron "Slider" Kerner, proud back-seater to the illustrious "Iceman."
It's three years of paperwork and plane inspections and putting up with cocky enlistees who don't know basic physics before her Uncle Tom recommends her for a special mission, one that might require the once-mighty "Lucky" Kerner to pile back on her flight suit and regain her steady hand at the controls. Max thinks that she'd rather be dishonorably discharged than be running flight drills again.
But the powers that be have tied her to this mission alongside her Uncle Mav and her former classmates, and the last thing she'd ever want to do is let Uncle Tom down. She expects the jitters and the breakdowns, and the overwhelming male rage, unexpected is the warmth that slowly but surely begins to thaw the ice in her heart surrounding Bradley Bradshaw ever since that fateful day when she and Vegas fell out of the sky.
All Max has to do to is just decide if she's ready to move on from her past, and let it all go, or if Vegas still has a part of her in his grasp.
