Chapter 9

TW MENTIONS OF RAPE

The next morning I go to the Wreck to look for them. When I get there Kie and JJ are there. They look at me. "Are you ok?" I nod. "I'll be fine. I testified to the police, told them it was Rafe. Judging by what's going on out there, they didn't believe me." They both nod and I sigh. "What are we doing?" "We're packing food. John B and Sarah are running away." I nod and help them.

JJ and Kiara are talking about something that happened with Pope. "You sure he wasn't just being weird Pope?" "It wasn't really the kind of thing that needed interpretation. Is that enough food for them?" I nod. "Looks like it could feed more than just them." She nods. "Look, I actually think I hurt his feelings." She's back to the Pope thing. "Look, don't beat yourself up too much. He's completely changed his feels. The past 24 hours have been like Jekyll and Hyde." 

She nods at JJ. "I hate to admit it, but I miss the old Pope. At least I knew what to expect from him." We go outside and Kie's mum walks up. She sees me and there's a small bit of surprise before she turns her attention to Kie and starts yelling at her.  They start arguing and Kie is crying as she apologises to her mum driving away from her. 

I know not to bring it up with her so I don't. We drive to JJ's and JJ goes in on his own leaving me and Kiara in the car together. I look at her. "Are you ok?" She looks at me. "I'm fine, are you?" I shake my head. "Probably not." She nods but she doesn't ask me to elaborate.  We sit in a comfortable silence until JJ gets to us.

We drive away from the house. We continue driving and the cops pass us. We dodge and I realize that they're going right past us which means they're still looking. We continue driving and we get to where the Phantom is kept. She's a beautiful boat. We continue when I hear motorcycle sounds. Finally, Pope is here. I start going towards the sound when Rafe and Sage appear. I take a step back.

Sage smiles. "Well, well if it isn't the snitch. You know the cops came to our house yesterday talking about how you were on the tarmac and that Rafe killed Sheriff Peterkin. You know what else the cops told us. They told us you accused me of raping you, so I told them, "oh she's just embarrassed she had sex with me and is looking for a way out of acknowledging it." He looks me dead in the eyes. "They believed me."

I step back as he steps towards me. Suddenly Barry appears from behind JJ and they start closing in on us. Barry brings out a gun and suddenly things get even worse. He moves towards JJ and we all take a step back until he gets close enough to starts punching JJ. Kie runs towards him but she's lifted up by Rafe. I'm frozen as Sage closes in on me and starts stroking my hair. Kie looks at Rafe. "I know what you did." He chuckles. "What did I do?" "You murdered Peterkin!" 

Suddenly his hand is on her throat and he's choking her. That unfreezes me. I knee Sage hard in the balls and I run up and elbow Rafe in the head. Kie breathes heavily as he turns his attentions on me. He goes and starts choking me when Pope appears behind us and hits him with a pole. He lets go of me and Kiara kneels beside me as I cough. She rubs my back slowly. They all fight each other and JJ overpowers Barry who drops his gun. JJ kicks it to us and I kick it far away.

He beats Barry and we look at Pope who's still punching Rafe. But then he loses control and ties a hose around Rafe's neck choking him. We struggle to get Pope off him but finally, Kie snaps him out of it and Rafe's not dead. Sage looks at me from where he's in a fetal position on the floor. "You're not gonna stay alive for much longer if you stay on the island. We'll make sure of it." Kie grabs my  hand and we leave and get the boat on the water.
