"Don't go," she had pleaded, almost in tears as she fell into his shoulder, her sobs uncontrollable as he wrapped his arms around her, pulling her gingerly closer. He did not understand this human emotion. Sadness? Was that it? Was she upset? The tears seemed right but yet, there appeared to be more linked to the waterworks. All he wanted to do was to stop her from crying. But how could he, when he knew that he was the one who was causing all it in the first place?

"I have to," was his gentle response as he pushed her away from him. "It has to be me."

"No, it doesn't! It doesn't! Why does it have to be you, Hasent? Why you?" Her sobs increased and he could barely hold back his own surge of emotions, the likes of which he had never felt before.

"Listen." He gripped her shoulders tightly, trying to control the twangs of pain he was feeling in his heart as he looked down at her. "Takito is strong. And someone's gotta stand up to him. Someone's gotta..."

"But why does it have to be you?!"

Unsure of what to do exactly, he lifted his hand to her eyes and did his best to wipe her tears away. "We're the last of our kind," he reminded her gently. Then, looking deep into her dark azure eyes, he put on a goofy smile. "Hey, don't worry about me, Liz. I'll be okay. You'll see."

She wasn't convinced. "Why do you have to do this?" she sniffled. "Why did he have to come here? Everything was so perfect without him." She buried her head in his chest.

"I know," he whispered, staring past her into the night sky. "But Takito doesn't care about things being perfect. He only ravages and destroys. He is the evil of the night. The bad to everything that is good. And, and I have to show him that good can triumph over evil. I have to be the light that Kalos needs right now."

"But what if you don't come back?"

"I will."

"But what if you..."

"Elizabeth." He pulled away from her and looked straight into her eyes. There, he could see the very same feeling that he himself did not know how to master. What feeling was it? And why was he, of all creatures, feeling it? "I will come back. I promise."

She shuddered, but if it was from the cold, he did not know. "I need you to come back to me," she whispered.

He sighed, once again watching the heavens. "I know," he replied. I will do everything I can to stop Takito and make it back to you, my love. But this is my purpose, my destiny. If I were to fail, then everything would be lost. I cannot fail. I know not what this emotion might be, unaccustomed to this human form that I have found myself in, but I will do everything in my power to save Kalos even if it only is for you.

"I have to go," he said at last, turning and beginning to walk away. He heard Elizabeth standing there, watching him, as though frozen in time. You are my only friend in this world. You taught me what it meant to be human when others would have not trusted me so. I thank you and know I can never repay that to you. I only hope you know how beautiful and how kind you are. Never let anyone tell you otherwise.

"Hasent."

He paused. He looked back at her one last time.

"I love you."

He gave her a real genuine smile. And then, from the depth of his heart, he said the words that he never imagined he would ever say to any human.

"I love you too."
