In this legend from Wales, young prince Lleu was under a curse that meant he could not take a human wife. His uncle, a Mahican, came up with an unusual solution; he conjured him up a beautiful bride made from flowers! He called her Blideuwedd, or 'flower face,' and for some time the couple were very happy. But then Lleu went away for a few days, the disloyal Blodeuwedd immediately fell in love with another man named Groww. The underhand pair tried to kill Lleu, but he transformed into an eagle and flew away. Lleu's uncle found him and restored his human form, and Lleu returned and killed Gronw. At the end of the tale, the uncle turns the treacherous Bloduewedd into an owl, destined to be forever shunned by other birds and to live only at night.
