Love Her for Me

Rest your head upon your lover's breast

Let your hands travel through golden locks

Tenderly cup her fair-cheeked visage,

Relax her furrowed brow with sweet words.

But alas! Sweet words are quickly lost,

So comfort her with earnest actions;

From the fields, come bearing flowers,

From the heart, love her with all her faults.

Come to understand her gravest woes

As you brush away her bitter tears,

Lend to her your most sincere smile.

Watch as her face brightens; treasure it.

When her joys are countless as the stars,

Let your happiness eclipse the sun.

Your felicity should grow with hers.

Yet there will be trials in your love.

At times you will anger the other

Persevere! My son, this is a storm!

You must bravely weather the tempest,

Allow your love to overcome ire.

Other times, Envy's green head will rise

Your insecurities must not win.

Trust your lover, whose heart wavers not,

Your strength and virtue shall reward you.

Love her, son, when I am unable

Show her the world when I cannot

For my eyes grow heavy and leaden,

My heart beats slowly; I will pass soon.

Your love is enough my dearest son.

When I am gone, love her for two people.

Into your hands, I send my daughter,

From my hands, I release your lover.
