Zhongli x Autistic SO Headcanons

A/N: I'm actually autistic so I wanted to kind of imagine what it would be like with my favorite Genshin husbando :)

-This is someone who has been around for thousands of years, so he's very knowledgable about all types of people and neurological differences

-Since he knows how rough it can be with a disability, he goes out of the way to make you feel comfortable and respected, just like the gentleman that he is

-One of your calming senses is gentle touch, and Zhongli is more than happy to give it to you

-Every morning, the both of you spend a couple minutes in bed, with him drawing little circles on the skin of your upper arm until he eventually wakes you up to get started for the day

-For breakfast, Zhongli tends to leave you to your own devices; he knows you have your own preferred foods, and he doesn't want to accidentally make something for you that isn't your desired texture

-He knows that you can tend to forget little things, so he writes up a list and makes sure you have everything you need before you leave the house

-If you're out walking and get overwhelmed by crowds, Zhongli will bring you into a hug and hide you under the comfort of his coat until the wave of people passes

-Similarly to him, you are very knowledgable about all sorts of things. When he notices you slipping into another info vent about one of your special interests, he listens to you with rapt interest and smiles at you warmly

-He finds your energy and unique perspective positively refreshing; you ask and think of things that even he hadn't considered

-To his amusement, you even corrected one of the top storytellers in Liyue, making sure to tell him exactly how inaccurate the story was and explain the real story, even if it took hours. Luckily, he would manage to pull you away before you lectured anyone too much, but inside he was overjoyed that he had someone else to share his knowledge of Liyue with

-You tend to shy away from most physical contact on your bare skin, at least in the beginning. Being touched by people, especially your boyfriend, can sometimes feel overwhelming and SCANDALOUS. However, as the days and months progress, you feel comfortable around your new partner and even try to hold his hand in public

-Somedays, the strain of masking and trying to be "normal" gets to you and you break down in your shared bedroom. In these times, Zhongli hugs you close and gently kisses your tears away.

"My dear, I have been in existence for countless years. I have seen all types of people from all ways of living. Your soul, believe me, is one of the most beautiful and unique that I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. Whenever you wish that you were somehow "normal" or could "fit in" as they say, just remember that there is no right way to be. You are you, and no matter how some people may perceive you, you will always be valued and cherished. Now, why don't I brew some tea and you can tell me about what you've learned about Liyue today. I'm sure that hearing things from you will give me an entirely new perspective."

Later, after Zhongli had long fallen asleep, you turned towards your sleeping lover and stroked his cheek. Finally, you felt understood.
