Haplily was done. She was tired of being pushed around by Smelliot and Villevan, so she stopped being pushed around. The next day, Smelliot came up to her. "Don't talk," he demanded.
"I do whatever the heck I want, thank you very much," she said, turning to walk away.
"You wanna go?"
"Swing first," Haplily said. Smelliot was taken back by how calm and confident she was acting.
"Fine," he said. "You. Me. Basketball court. One o'clock. Tomorrow. Be there."
Haplily, slightly nervous because she knew she couldn't play basketball very well, simply said, "I'll show if you do."
With that, the challenge had been in place.
