Chapter Nine
Grace Van Pelt
I walk out of the elevator again for the first time in weeks. I head straight to Boss' office to tell her I'm back incase she's forgotten, likely if Jane's been on her case. I push open the door and find her sat at her desk talking to Jane who's lying on her couch.
"Hey Boss. I'm back." I then turn to look at Jane and flash him a smile. "Hi Jane."
He nods at me and grins.
"How are you feeling?" Boss asks.
"I'm nearly there. Just a splint on now," I show her my arm.
"Great! You won't have to do field work until you're completely recovered. But, until then you will have to be in the office."
I internally groan, but I understand why she's doing it.
"Okay."
"Get Cho or Rigsby to inform you about the case and familiarise yourself with it. Then report back to me."
"Got it."
I leave her office and make my way into the bullpen, heading towards my desk.
"Hi," I smile at Wayne as I walk past. "Hi Cho."
He looks up at me.
"Hi... How's your arm?"
"It's good."
"Why's it in a splint if it's good?"
I roll my eyes but can't stop a small smirk spreading over my face.
"Fine, it's better than it has been."
I sit at my desk and turn my computer on. There's various paper work scattered across the surface of the table so I tap it into a neat pile.
"Hey, could one of you talk me through the case?"
Cho leans back in his chair and Wayne watches me with a blank expression. Cho turns around and gives him a look.
"Sure..." Wayne finally says. When he walks past he seems to glare at Cho who's sat there with nearly half a smile on his face as he watches his friend's irritation.
"What's going on between you two?" I ask.
"Oh... It's nothing... What do you need to know?"
"If you hadn't noticed I've not been at work for the past few weeks."
He looks straight ahead and casually throws me an amused expression.
"Oh, I've noticed... If you hadn't have been with me at home I would have died...'"
"Come on, just talk me through the case," I ask urgently wanting to change the topic of conversation. Who knows who could be listening.
He chuckles and glides his eyes over my body.
"Okay... But when we get home-"
No, no, no. Don't say it, we're at work. I butt in desperately.
"Who are your suspects in the case so far?"
"The case can come later... I'm loving this far too much..."
I turn to face him.
"What? Watching me squirm in embarrassment?"
"Oh I like watching you squirm in many other ways too..." The look of glee and amusement that crosses his face hides the lust that drowns his eyes.
