Pt. 1 of my fanmade lore for the original Digimon Series (Adventure / Adventure 02)

In human terms, the war itself began 60 years ago, lasting for 6 dreadful years. But for the Digimon, it felt even longer than that. Seven mighty demon kings claimed the land embraced by the shadows, ruling over it with iron fists and claws of pure darkness. Their realm was run like a military force of grand proportion, and one that was to be feared and respected for its efficiency.

Demon, the lord of Wrath, would burn down opponents in a blaze of fury.

Lillithmon, lady of Lust, who would seduce and punish the wicked for their terrible deeds.

Leviamon, lord of Envy, ruled the seas of darkness with a vice jaw grip and was hailed one of the strongest demon lords with his pure predatory instinct and hunting finesse.

Lucemon, lord of Pride, hailed ruler amongst them all. Wearing the crown of the most powerful demon lord and having the most authority in the realm, with a hand that would eliminate any who dare oppose him.

Barbamon, lord of Greed, sat on a throne of gold and would manipulate fallen angel Digimon to do his bidding, a Digimon of a silver tongue.

Belphemon, lord of Sloth, who would sleep away his days and hide behind the face of laziness wrath so animalistic and primal it would threaten entire continents when it awakened.

And Beelzbumon, lord of Gluttony, who always desired strength, freedom, and independence. They would only work with others if they so desired, and weren't bound by any chains, riding their cycle Behemoth everywhere they traversed, leaving ashes in their wake.

However as fearsome as these descriptions are, what if I were to tell you that you had been lied to? That these beings, though very militaristic and cold, were not the terrible antagonists so many Digimon had been lead to believe?

Alphamon's testimony goes as follows.

"We praise our benevolent God, our savior, and our lord, for having us annihilate this threat before it got out of control. Digimon such as these are nothing but a scourge on the Digital World, and if not stopped, Armageddon would've been absolute. His graciousness has saved us from years of slavery and control from these monsters among us. Creatures that were so cruel they should not even be considered one of us. You all are safe now, thanks to our great lord Yggdrasil."

But the truth is not always what is told. The demon lords had no interest in conquering territories beyond, they did desire more, but in the end, they were always willing to make compromises. Their duty was to be the punishers of sin, nothing more. It was not their fault they were sentenced to rule the desolate wasteland that was this place. Still, Yggdrasil feared their military force's power, and went to his most loyal subject, Alphamon.

He ordered Alphamon to warn the Demon Lords about building up their military factions in fear of a strike against him, when Alphamon questioned why as they have always been negotiable, Yggdrasil responds by questioning his loyalty.

"Do you forever want to be known as a traitor, Alphamon, or remain my best general?"

"...Yes, sire."

Telling the other knights that he fears the Demon Lord's plan to overtake the Digital World, he sends an operation to warn them to cease building arms. Lucemon attempts to be diplomatic, saying they are just preparing their soldiers in the event of a possible crisis so that the wasteland wouldn't be entirely eradicated of what little resources were there for them, but Alphamon refused to listen to reason.

Consistent warning attacks were sent toward each tower, and eventually, the Demon Lords were forced to take action. With unanimous agreement, Lucemon declared war. The Great War Of Devils was brutal, lasting years with casualties piling up and resources beginning to run dry. But it all came to a close in the final clash when Alphamon spears Lucemon's true form through the sphere of darkness he held in his draconic form.

Lucemon fell to the ground below, joining his companions who fell one by one before him and were erased into dust. The defeat of the Demon Lords was celebrated around the Digital World, as they all praised the Royal Knights for saving them from a terrible fate.

As the announcements were being made, some of the Knights began to doubt their actions, Dynasmon watching in silence before turning to the knight he shared a sisterhood with.

"Lord Knightmon, tell me... Do you think that we were the aggressors?"

"...Somehow," The lady knight replied, "I believe we are." She recalled the look on Lillithmon's face when she speared her sash-blade into the demon's abdomen, the look of shock and horror haunting her for the rest of her life.

Moons later, these demons would awaken once more as newly born Digimon, one destined to become a savior of the Digital World, and the others would follow right behind her as her allies. With little recollection of the events in their past, but with marks that united them all.

Crests.

Crests that marked parts of their body.

The Crests of Sin.

The punishers of the wicked had returned to fulfill their duties once again, and this time will be hailed as heroes amongst the land, alongside their once former enemies.
