Janie Mitchell had been best friends with Laurel Park and Susannah Beck since the first grade. The three were like sisters, a bond that never could break.
It was always them three even when they got married.
It wasn't planned when they had children around the same time.
Laurel had a son Steven Conklin, Susannah also had a son Conrad Fisher and Janie had a daughter Raegan Kavinsky.
Then a year later it happened again, Laurel finally got a daughter named Isabel Conklin, Susannah had another son Jeremiah Fisher and Janie had another daughter Robyn Kavinsky.
Isabel and Robyn were closer in birthdays, both being in summer.
And summer was the best time of the year.
Every summer since before they were born, they would go to Susannah's summer house. It was all they knew.
It was always the mothers and kids, no fathers/husbands. It was better that way.
When Raegan was seven and Robyn was six, their father had died in a car crash. It crushed the two.
But they could always count on summer to cheer them up.
The mothers had always believed their daughters were destined for one of their boys.
And Robyn hoped it would be Jeremiah, she's always had a crush on him. She couldn't help it.
She loved him.
But he only thought of her as his best friend.
This summer would be different. Robyn and Isabel had a glow up.
Robyn got rid of her braces, chubbiness, acne, and her tomboyish looks. She finally dressed like a girl, which her sister was proud of.
It was time for a new Robyn Kavinsky.
And she hoped to finally gain Jeremiah's attention.
