Summer of 85'

Kathryn Ann Callahan used to spend her whole life in the shadows of her older brothers Philip and Mark, that was before she moved away. You'd think with her being the only girl and her being the younger child she'd atleast get some attention from her parents if not all of it, but it was always about how great of an officer Philip would be one day and the future of Marks' teaching career.

In a town like Hawkins the Callahans have always been rich and well know, Philip being a cop, Mark being a teacher at Hawkins high , Robert Callahan being apart of the board at Hawkins high school after retiring and Mary Callahan owning a huge clothing store. Kathryn felt like a disappointment.

Trying to feel like she wasn't an outsider in her own family, young Kathryn found hobbies that she was good at, some hobbies her parents approved of, and some they didn't. She changed her style even though she hated the look and became a member of the band corroded coffin in middle school (she stayed in it till she left Hawkins during her sophomore year.) or kinda like a manager, she helped them with publicity , she even sang or played drums when Gareth wasn't around, but it wasn't very often because of her parents complaining. Being in band kinda struck a hole in her social life, but it didn't matter to her, music was her favorite thing in the world. Her love for music was why her parents suggested cheer, it was the one thing they did approve of. "In cheer honey there's lots of music when you're at basketball games." So she did it against her will.

Not only was she a cheerleader and apart of the band corroded coffin, she sometimes played dnd with her band mates (and teachers who'd stay out of pity) for hours, rushing to her house afterwards before her parents started screaming at her asking where she was. At the time there were still only four members Kathryn, Eddie, Gareth and Jeff, that was before everything went to shit in hawkins.

On November 6th, 1983 everything took a turn. Will Byers went missing followed by one of the two girl friends Kathryn had: Barbara Holland. Barbara felt like a breather from her parents, band and life itself , not only did she lose Barb, but she also lost her other best friend Nancy wheeler (long before Barb had even died, due to Steve) and it crushed her to the point where her parents had to send her to live with her grandparents in Montana.

So she left Hawkins, the band, Nancy, and the cheer team to go to Montana where she could make new friends and have a fresh start, somewhere where her best friend didn't go missing.

Really, after she left she didn't stay in touch with anyone other than sending out a few letters. Kathryn cleaned herself up finally getting her parents love and approval from the help of her nana and papaw, became popular, continued playing the drums a little bit, stopped playing dungeons and dragons, and finally fell in love with cheerleading at her new school.

At least a full year had passed and She thought she could stay away from her hometown forever, but summer came around. When summer had hit last time she spent it working on her mama and papaws farm, but the summer before her senior year her parents made her come visit Hawkins for her brother Mark's wedding.

She really hesitated. Sure she cared about her brother, but she didn't think she had it in her. Over the phone she begged her parents to let her stay, told them that she didn't think she could go back and handle everything, but they refused to let her stay in Montana, insisted that she must support her older brother.

When she got back she attended her brothers wedding. The wedding was lavish with tiny rose place mats at every table, embroidered napkins and a custom wedding topper. Only a few days after the wedding her parents sat her down and told her that her grandparents were thinking about moving back to Hawkins. They were too old to work and were going to sell the farm.
