I did not know you; I knew part of you
It was a part loved by millions including you
Built of wit, kindness and an audible grin
It was in no way private, but it always felt just so

I never met you; I felt like I'd known you for a thousand lifetimes
Familiar jokes, laughter, battles, games, and fun
A voice I heard so often it became as lucid as the clouds you now walk upon
Like a favourite song, I knew you forwards and backwards

I never saw you; I knew what you looked like
A smile wider than the sun and a smirk as cheeky as your tongue
Always in clothes that were comfortable first, matching your carefree attitude
The sort of person that was as charming as they were disarming

I had no right to, but I loved you
I loved you without knowing any other side of you
I loved you blind
I loved you endlessly

You were a guiding light, the conductor of my symphony
On many mornings you were the spring in my step
The general of my battalion
My loveable sensei, teacher or professor

You knew exactly how to make me smile when I wanted to cry
You knew exactly what to say, what to do, how to act and when not to
Even if you were unconscious to my consciousness

But now you're not here to help me anymore
You left me and are forced to walk a road with no turning back

After so many battles without any sight of surrender, you had no other choice
You refused to give up right until the end
If you were going down you were taking it down with you
And even when you knew what lay ahead, you didn't want to let the inevitable be

A fighter
A joker
A carer
A bright beautiful mind

You've planted your seeds in your garden
I just hope one day you'll look down and see

Strong
Ceaseless
Steadfast
Your legacy

This is how we'll remember thee, in a glowingly positive light
As the man who won wars no matter the challenge
As the man who knew better than anybody; kindness is free
As the man who loved, more than anything, to make people laugh
As the man who even in his darkest moments refused to relent

We have to remember you for longer than we've known you
It's a mission we're more than happy to carry out
We'll tell your story
We'll touch the hearts you will never get to
We'll guide the youth who will lack everything you gave us

Thank you
For loving us
Now it's our turn

I promise to take my time

We'll see you on the other side
