Last breaths

Her breaths were becoming shallow, almost gasps as she lay on the silken sheets. Her time was nearing an end, her rein as queen almost over. The role would be passed to her son, Frederick and she knew he would lead well. She raised a frail hand and her daughter Emaline clasped it tightly in hers.

"Mother dear, is it near?" Harper asked as he lay a hand on her wrinkled forehead. The Queen of Etherill took a shallow breath and placed her hand on his. "In my 86 years of living in this world I have slain dragons, become Queen, married the love of my life and been mother to three beautiful children. My time has ended, but don't fret my dears, I'm going to be with your father now." The queen whispered as she cast her eyes down to her wedding ring.

The green sapphire sparkled slightly and she let out a soft breath as she listened to crying of her three month old grandson. She took her last breath and the world around her faded to black.

She opened her eyes and gazed around at the high school classroom that she had been sure was a dream years ago. She looked down at her left hand and saw her wedding ring "Was it all a dream."
