Two Souls in the Twilight

©Olan L. Smith

We are two souls standing in the twilight

Singing each other's praise; we were the song.

We stood as two when you took flight,

How could I've been so wrong?

When, I set you free in the darkness night.

If earth, wind, fire and rain

Can walk through the doors of time,

Then we can do it all over again;

We can be true this time.

I thought I lost you

In the driven storm while you were in my arms;

It was up ― down ― all around when we said adieu

It will be us, all over again; we can do no harm,

Up ― down ― all around―

You and I, baby, forever more;

I should have held you tighter,

Never let you go, but you were gone before I knew it,

Saying you had things you must conquer;

The raging rivers of time took you, and I thought I was unfit,

I then wrote our final chapter;

Up ― down― all around―

It was you and me, baby; you discarded me.

I searched everywhere for you

But you were nowhere to be found,

Yet; tonight in my dreams, here you

Are in my embrace, light's renown

Refuses to move ― you sing to me telling me you're my muse.

Here we are two souls standing in the twilight

Singing our love, for we are the song;

Our flag unfurrowed when you took flight;

My love ― I was so wrong;

We are liberated in the brightest light.

Earth, wind, fire and rain

Walked through the doors of time;

It is you and me, baby, break out the best champagne;

It is you and me reunited by time.

We are two souls standing in life's twilight

Singing each other's praise; we are the song

No longer separated by time; you never took flight,

I was so wrong; you were freed in the darkest night.
