Steve's answer didn't help with the worries of his teammates. Peter was the most visibly shaken up and acted like he couldn't believe what was happening.

It was true that it was unexpected – Steve had done plenty of things that should kill him, and he was always fine in a few days.

Bruce followed Steve and eventually caught up with him in the elevator. "You know, if you told them, I could get Tony to check the recording of the recent fights we've been involved in to see if there was anything that could cause that."

Steve sighed and leaned against the wall of the elevator. "Look, it doesn't matter. If we use the conventional method to heal me, I will be useless to the team, and if I reject the treatment, I'll also be useless. I guess it's better if they don't know."

"They could help."

"Yeah, sure. I know a thing or two about being ill, and I'm pretty certain they'll start treating me differently when they find out."

Bruce looked at him. "So you just want to postpone it?"

"Exactly."

"Even if that means it'll be harder to find the cure?"

"What do you mean?"

The elevator stopped, but they didn't leave. "Well," Bruce continued, "I don't think this just happened. There must have been something that caused it. Maybe some new weapon."

Steve left the elevator and started walking toward his room. Bruce followed him. "If we figure out who did this to you and why maybe we can make some sort of antidote that could stop the spread of the disease, but we have to be fast. If things progress and you get worse, even an antidote might not be sufficient in fixing everything."

Steve stopped in the middle of the hall.

"You can also speak with Sam first," Bruce suggested. "He worked with veterans; he can help you to deal with this."

Steve looked at him. "I'll tell them today, I just need a moment, okay?"

Bruce nodded and left to give him some privacy and returned to his floor.
